Staple is saying that Martinek is skating with the boys and is expected to attend camp. I would take him on our team.

Hey maybe we could trade for Erhoff... oh.

to be clear, i was throwing out the names of the players that I believe will make the team to start the season (9 game stints excluded) - wasn't intended to be lines.

I expect these lines:

Moulson - Tavares - Boyes
Grabner - Bailey - Okposo
Martin - Nielsen - Joensuu
Boulton - Reasoner - Ullstrom (I'd probably go with Cizikas over Boulton)

However, I wouldn't be surprised to see Niederreiter on Long Island:

Moulson - Tavares - Boyes
Niederreiter - Bailey - Okposo
Grabner - Nielsen - Joensuu
Martin - Reasoner - Ullstrom

Thanks for the reply - I was just asking because i have not seen Joensuu since he last played on the Island.

I'd love to see Martinek back with the Islanders! Frankly, I'd re-sign Eaton as well (at this point) and then add a waiver pickup, a guy like Paul Ranger would be perfect.

A defense group of:

Streit Hamonic McDonald Martinek Eaton Ranger Carkner is fairly average - far better than the "horrid" we have as of RIGHT NOW.

That is awesome! I'd love to have Martinek back, he was one of my favorites and he seemed genuinely thrilled to play for the Islanders during his post-game interviews.

Indeed. In a world where the external options on D are all questionable for one reason or another, I'd take Martinek back and hope for the best.

what I'm expecting, strome flying in with jt, if jt wants strome on the team i think he makes it

moulson - tavares - strome
bailey - nielsen - okposo
grabner - cizikas - boyes
martin - reasoner - boulton
Halmo

striet - hamonic
macdonald - martinek
donovan - carkner

nabby
poulin

if this roster stays healthy and plays how they can there is no reason to believe that this team doesn't make the play offs

There is every reason to believe this team won't make the playoffs.

The defense after Streit, MacDonald, and Hamonic is horrible. Carkner isn't a make or break player, Donovan is a rookie, and Martinek (if he is signed to a contract) will be nothing more than a #5 defenseman. Hamonic is also hurt, so he may not be fully effective this year.

I have no faith in Bailey. The team still lacks a 2nd line center that can jump start the offense unless Strome has an immediate impact but he's also a rookie. Boyes in the bottom-6 would be completely ineffective.

And Tavares telling management that he wants Strome on the team should have no impact on whether or not he actually does make it. Strome needs to impress at camp and show management that he belongs. I don't know whether or not he does, but Tavares just telling management, "I want Strome here" isn't good enough.

You are unrealistically optimistic.

Would not mind starting the season with:

Moulson-Tavares-Grabner
Bailey-Strome-okposo
Ullstrom/cizikas-neilson-boyes
Cizikas/ullstrom-reasoner-martin

Streit-hammer
Amac-viz (hopefully)
Carkner-donovan
Martinek

Nabokov
Poulin/nilsson

(mod edit)

Grabner won't work on line one he's is too fast for jt and Marty ice, he showed that last year Boyes or KO It will be IMO other than that like them

I remember Grabner scoring a nice goal playing on a line with JT, but yes Boyes or Okposo would be a better fit. If Garth gets a 2nd line center or if Strome is ready, I wouldn't mind seeing Boyes on the 2nd line with Strome and Okposo plays with JT.

Sign Radek Martinek and Eric Fehr.

Trade non-roster player/pick for Keith Ballard.

Moulson-Tavares-Okposo
Bailey-Strome-Boyes
Joensuu-Nielsen-Grabner
Martin-Reasoner-Fehr
Boulton

Streit-Ballard
MacDonald-Hamonic
Donovan-Carkner
Martinek

Nabokov
DiPietro/Poulin/Nilsson

That doesn't look bad to me. Ballard would fit well with the Islanders, unlike he has with the Canucks.

As an outsider I can tell you that the more I see of Frans Nielsen the more I am impressed by his play. He just seems to be able to do whatever the team needs.

It would be great to see him on the 2nd line and generating some offense as well as some league wide recognition.

Guy doesn't get enough kudos IMHO

Bob Mckenzie just tweeted that the junior call ups get 6 games instead of 9.

Womder if we keep Strome for the short term.

{MOD EDIT: https://twitter.com/TSNBobMcKenzie/s...17777287745537 I believe this is the Tweet you're referencing.}

IMO he would be the best 3rd line center in the league.

Don't get your hopes up for Carkner. He's not a top pair dman. not by a long shot. he's a bottom pair guy on his best of days.

i know he isn't. i'm assuming they're going to something similar to what they did with gervais (put him with streit so he can cover up for his mistakes)

Too small, no shot, not talented enough for a 2nd line player; not enough offense.

But there are very few players as smart and positionally sound as Frans. He can play with anyone and make them look good because he covers up for so many of their mistakes and poor decisions. I don't think Grabner gets a contract without Frans.

He's a player I would never trade and I'd want him even on the 4th line.

But he's not a 2nd liner in a winning team. Not unless he's paired with two all offense players.

I'm really surprised Nino & Donnovan weren't invited to camp. By all means I think it's the right thing to leave them both down there, but I'm just shocked.

Maybe we're finally going to develop our prospects properly.

I don't think it is as simple as that. There are probably very good reasons for the non-invites and it probably has to do MORE with the half season than it is about them being good or not good enough.

It's a half season, why not give some other players a chance to show what they got at this level. The team is confident they know what to expect from Nino and Donovan. I think they want to see what ullstrom and casey does for an extended call up and to give opportunity to people like Landry and even Wishart to show what they can do with regular minutes with nothing on the line. Isles are NOT going into this season to win..they are going into this season to develop. They are making the best of what would be a crappy season...to be honest...I think management are kinda hoping for a shot at Seth. In the process, helping to dev some players that would normally not get such an extended callup.
