There was talk in Montreal on Tuesday the Subban camp could be looking for a deal similar to that signed by Los Angeles Kings defenceman Drew Doughty, who landed an eight-year deal worth $56 million. That sounds like a pretty lofty demand.
One player agent said “it is going to be crazy,” when the flag drops and the window to sign players opens with the ratification of the new CBA.
Thoughts on this?
In my mind Subban was't worth Doughty money before the new CBA and he surely isn't worth it in a slightly reduced cap world either.
Highly unlikely its reported that money hasn't been an issue, the problem is term, Habs like to give guys coming off ELC 2 years deals before getting a long term deal, and Subban is looking for a 4-5 year term. That has been the sticking point, not money, so I doubt that he wants that type of money and term already.
I hope Bergevin keeps to his guns, a 4 year deal would be horrible, takes up only RFA years, and makes him a UFA at 27.
If his demands were reasonable, Montreal would have signed him before the lockout.... clearly he wants to cash in.
Highly doubt it
I'm not sure why ppl think its a question of money, because its clearly seems to be about term. Subbans want a 2 year deal to keep him an RFA when the contract is up, ex Price, Patches, while Subban wants a long term deal so that he is a UFA when the deals is up, so that even if he re-signs with the Habs, its going to be for UFA market price.
There was an article just a few days ago by TVA Sports (french media) that confirmed that the issue is term not money but I can't seem to find it anymore.
