Avg pace for a Dman last year was 20.5 pts over 82 games. Phillips was 19.5. Is that really the offensive black whole your describing him as? I think for a defensive specialist on the 2nd or 3rd pairing with limited PP time, that's pretty good, no?

Granted he is no longer as good defensively as he was, but he's still a valued contributor. Expectations for him seem to be too high.

Wow, I completely blanked out that he played 8 games in 2010-2011. I guess that was when the team wasn't very good and there was a lot of call ups playing. He had a couple of assists too.

I stand corrected.

And he played well except for getting walked once or twice.

Benoit is solid.

He's serviceable, makes few mistakes and will get a few points just from general good fundamentals. Sure, he get's burned every now and then but he's not a liability.

Plus he would help Weircioch adapt

BruceG reported on twitter that GM BM has got calls regarding Ottawa's young goaltenders and could play that card at some point.

I read in the citizen and sun yesterday in an article that BM is already considering a deal for a defenceman. Wonder if it's related to one of our young goalies being offered in exchange.

We might regret it in a few years... not because Zibanejad has more value than MDZ, but...

On defense, we have Ceci, Karlsson, Cowen, Wiercioch, Wikstrand...

And Zibanejad has the most upside of Sens forward prospects

Trading our highest draft pick since Spezza before we know what we have could be a mistake IMO

Or we do that deal (and add to Zibanejad) and trade I don't know... Ceci for another forward prospect?

It makes sense value-wise...

Da Costa is a bottom-6 player?

I think you meant top-6 or bust, no?

Daugavins don't have enough value in addition to MZ for a player like MDZ

Zibanejad + + for Yandle perhaps?

Looks like Gormley and Rundblad are both ready to make the jump. Michalek id imagine can be had for relatively cheap too at that salary.
I'd pay Zibanejad, Greening and a 3rd for Yandle... Don't see why the Yotes would move him

Who replace Michalek offense?

Stone? Zibanejad? Hoffman?

Too much expectations for our rookies

Welll, Wiercioch has 8 NHL games under his belt and looked good, and that was 2 years ago before he bulked up, etc.

Jared Cowen had 1 NHL game before last season but he did play full-time and did more than not look out of place

Sure, Wiercioch isn't as good as Cowen but we might do things like that while rebuilding rather than when we will contend.

My impression of the organization is that they really like Robin Lehner. I'd say it's much more likely they trade Bishop than Lehner.

Lehner is our goalie of the future so if anyone is getting moved it's either Bishop or Anderson.

I'd be open to moving Bishop for a defenseman.

If they were to move Lehner, I'd expect Bishop to be extended by 3 years, minimum.

Its insane their depth
I know grass is always greener on the other side, and Yotes have "insane Defensive Depht" but the Sens depht is underrated too

OEL vs Karlsson
Michalek vs Methot
Yandle vs Gonchar
Morris vs Phillips
Klesla vs Cowen
Schlemko vs Lundin
Summers vs Borowiecki
Stone vs Wiercioch
Gormley vs Ceci
Rundblad vs Wikstrand
Goncharov vs Gryba/Blood
Murphy vs Sdao/Claesson

Problems we have is that Cowen is out for the season and that Gonchar probably plays his last season with the Sens

If you look at it by finding comparables it sure doesn't look like the Sens have a Pee-Wee defense and the Yotes have a perennial championship D-squad, there's several Sens guys I'd take first, notably Karlsson and Cowen (and I am a huge OEL fan)

Yotes have insane depht, but Sens depht isn't too far behind, well at least not as much as you'd think by reading this board... unless you think guys like Karlsson, Cowen, Wiercioch, Ceci, Wikstrand,... are not worthy

With the way management has supposedly been talking about Lehner, I'd say he'd be one the last guys we'd move.

First, I doubt that Lehner the MVP of the Bingo Sens last playoff run & Calder Cup Championship is going to be traded especially when he seems to be having another MVP season.

Second, I would rather the Sens not trade away any of their top prospects for a defenceman including Bishop until the trade deadline unless it was a very good young defenceman. I would hate to see Zibanejad traded before we ever got to see why they drafted him in the first place, he certainly has potential to be a star. I would be okay with trading any combination of Da Costa, Filatov, Petersson, Pageau or even Puempel for a good young defenceman.

IMO all Murray has to do is sign a guy like Kurtis Foster to a one or two yr deal & pair him with a good offensive defenceman like Benoit on the 3rd pairing. Phillips can play with Gonchar until Lundin is back & then they can deal from a better position. They would still have Boroweicki & Wiercioch & Gryba in reserve as injury callups & this would keep Bingo strong for this yr so that they hopefully have another cup run.

It may make more sense to wait until the trade deadline or the summer to see which teams are going to dump players to make cap space, there may be deals to be had. However, Murray has pulled off some good deals before & some not so good deals so, who knows?
