Funny that if you google the phrase, the first hit is a conservative religious group talking about their own personal "hill to die on."

To anyone who has been following the NHL/NHLPA lockout dispute, it was what Daly said weeks ago in reference to a contract term limit of 5 years. TSN isn't letting him forget it, bringing it up in several newscasts since, of course, the NHL's position has since changed, and they have allowed 7 year limits, 8 if re-signing with the same club.

Jack Todd of the Montreal Gazette has some nasty comments about it:
http://www.montrealgazette.com/sport...411/story.html

Here is a HfBoards thread: http://hfboards.hockeysfuture.com/sh....php?t=1318817

The implication of my reference is (intended to be) that the firm statement of commitment will be later recanted and position changed because the situation dictates another course of action is needed. (The expression "famous last words" comes to mind). That's what I was getting at. Of course, there are language and regional differences that interfere with meaning communication. it's a fragmented universe these days. Of course not everyone has been following the lockout dispute. I have but in some ways wish I hadn't. Those who took a break really missed very little, except for the machinations of negotiations that left a bitter taste in everyone's mouths.

I have changed my team's name (to honour a different team in history history) every draft at every level on this sub-board: 29 and counting!

Check your PMs.

A good way to START to decide the value of players to determine who to draft is to look at the last draft:

ATD 2012 Draft Thread:
http://hfboards.hockeysfuture.com/sh....php?t=1134463

This is all one grand thought experiment, "what if" reflections, trying to imagine what would happen, and basing our judgements on real facts, comparing players to others of their own era to determine their value, then comparing them to players of other eras to realize their all-time merit. It's an ongoing reflective process full of interesting discussions and analyses.

Here is a ROSTER thread (we put the players we draft here as we go through the draft): http://hfboards.hockeysfuture.com/sh....php?t=1082791

Here is a BIO thread (here is where we put bios we construct, building on past bios by others): http://hfboards.hockeysfuture.com/sh....php?t=1083917

Here is a Line-up Assassination thread (here is where we review individual teams prior to each of us voting anonymously by PM ballot on the ranking of teams for each division: http://hfboards.hockeysfuture.com/sh...d.php?t=899921

Here is a playoff match-up thread: http://hfboards.hockeysfuture.com/sh....php?t=1157173

These should give you a sense of the level of participation! Draft on time and after the draft vote on ranking teams within divisions and in playoff series, add to discussions and conversations all over the place, like in line-up assassinations, playoff match-up threads, etcetera. Basically, plan to be around at least fifteen minutes a day every day at minimum. Disappearing for three or four days is not conducive to the all-time draft!

Read more carefully, gentlemen. It says right under his username "This is BenchBrawl" or you could have just clicked on his profile. It's Reen who eats poutine. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Poutine There are many great GMs unregistered and I don't want to be exclusionary. If a vet does not get in and we can agree, I'm willing to work with him.

Personally, I would love going with 28 teams - 4 divisions of 7 teams each, 1st seed gets a bye to round 2. It would be a nice minor change in team strength from 32 teams. All we'd need would be 2 GMs to team up.

But we still have over a week before we need to start, so let's leave sign up open for now.

Last year they both said they enjoyed not having a team but still being very involved with the draft, giving their opinions on picks, assassinations, voting, etc. I can't speak for them, but it sounded like that was going to be their plan again this year.

It's not uncommon for him not to sign up at all when there's no ATD going on.I'm sure he'll log in eventually.

I don't think he'll want to be a GM though.

It's just not the ATD without a last minute name change to psyche out opponents...
