It really depends on how bad Winnipeg wants to upgrade their center depth vs having defensive depth. On Winnipeg O'Reilly would probably be the #1C even if he isn't at that level. O'Reilly is also a significant upgrade compared to Little. Giving up Bogosian they would still have 2 good defensemen in Enstrom and Buff, both of which are locked up for a few years.

O'Byrne could be substituted in the deal for a variety of parts and the 2nd could become a 1st. The point is the deal isn't all that far off.

In the end if the Avs trade O'Reilly they will get a very good return. There are not many 55 pt, 21 year old, defensively responsible, hard working centers on the market. In fact the last center like that to be traded was Staal and he got a very good, young #3C, a solid young D prospect, and a top 10 pick. O'Reilly alone wouldn't net quite that return, but centers like O'Reilly will get high returns.

Defensemen Joel Chouinard and Markus Lauridsen have each been called up to the Lake Erie Monsters.

Maybe for someone enamored with the Bogosian name rather than his actual play.

Presumably so that Elliot and Barrie can participate in training camp?

I'm assuming that it is Elliott and Barrie who get the shots with the big club but what about Pock and Gaunce?

Agreed. That's why it has to be for Duchene, plus maybe Barrie.

I hope both Barrie AND Elliott get called up. I hope Hejda / Hunwick get bought out. I'd like to see something to "build" on if we are really actually building into something. Along the lines of:-

Elliott - Johnson
Wilson - O'Brien
Barrie - O'Byrne
(Zanon)

Hejda / Hunwick / Zanon aren't upgrades on Barrie / Elliott (I understand they offer different things), but we need more production from our defense.

Siemens then comes into the team when O'Byrne is ready to move on (probably 2-3 years).

If we could then land someone like Streit (quality veteran) at seasons end, do it. So, two to three years time, we have (after Elliott / Barrie have two years and almost 150 games under their belts):-

Streit (example only) - Johnson
Elliott - Wilson
Barrie - Siemens

We have too many players which have experience in his role over him, he's going to sit for at least two more years imo. I hope the Avs learn to develop patience with prospects going forward.

Appears to be having an awful year looking at just numbers. I loved what I saw from him as well, even in his 11 games with the Avs. However looks like his offensive production has more or less stopped completely this season. Can't say much for his defensive game since I haven't seen him play.

I like the fundamentals of his game, I just wish he would improve his quickness/acceleration. Earlier this season with the Monsters, I thought that at times, he looked half a stride behind chasing pucks in the corners. Perhaps it was just a nagging injury since this has improved in games of late but if Gaunce wants to take the next step and play well at the NHL level, he's going to have to be half a stride ahead, in my opinion. Other parts of his defensive game are pretty solid and he's still relatively young but this year and next will be very telling.

They can't buy out Hejda (or anyone) right now.

Toronto Maple Leafs have apparently fired Brian Burke as general manager. Working on official confirmations.

Burke fired... the end of choice of Avs center for Bozak, Kadri, and 2nd?

A difference of opinion regarding Luongo Stastny was probably the reason for the firing.

Whoa, LOL. I dislike Burke, but he knows how to build a hockey team, IMO. He should've stayed with Anaheim.

Really? I need evidence of this knowing how to build a team. He inherited a great thing in Anaheim. This is the same guy who believed Dan Cloutier was a legit starter in this league for years. I give him credit for stealing Bertuzzi from Mad Mike and pulling off the Bure deal that landed them Jovo.
