Has to do something with Luongo right? Or they would have done it right after last season.

I know he said it would be a long rebuilding process, but I don't think there's been enough forward progress in the process to justify keeping it going.
Whether or not it's a good idea depends on who they hire and what they do after. Also, CBJ should immediately fire Howson and hire Burke.

Safe bet says that Nonis is the replacement; there's a press conference for 1:30 EST, so we'll probably find out then.
The timing is really curious; that's what surprises me most. As many others have speculated, I wonder if it has to do with what Burke was willing to give up for Luongo.

Maybe the Leafs wanted to fire Burke this summer but couldnt because of the lockout. Its the timing of this that has me thinking that.

Does that mean Toronto may actually be able to build a competent team now?

Could have fired him at anytime before Sept
Why have Burke run your 2012 draft and fire him?
At least with Tallon we had the RFA fiasco and power struggle over Havlat/Hossa (Bowman wanted Hossa , Tallon wanted to retain Havlat) to explain his sudden firing just week 1/2 after draft

If these reports of conflict between Burke/ownership over Luongo deal are true
Leafs are about to be robbed again in trade

The job Burke did was miserable ,, I dont think most would disagree
The timing and luongo speculation makes this very exciting time ,, Love hockey being back
Speculation FTW

There has to be more to this. They made a comment that it had nothing to do with his personal life. Something's up.

I didn't think that management was part of the lockout, ie you can fire a coach/gm even during a work stoppage.

But you can't trade.
That makes me think that there was a disagreement over a major transaction, and Burke told them to **** off or something.
