That's nuts. Can't help but sort of believe the infidelity rumours.

That's why lockouts shouldn't happen. Too much time on their hands!

I'd like to see a deal with a Reilly/Gaunce swap.

Reilly > Gaunce, Corrado

Luongo> Bozak, Ist

Hi guys. Can you tell me a bit about Nonis as gm? Was he liked? hated? I know he made a good trade for Luongo, but did he do anything else good?

he might not even be replacement for burke, but I feel there's a good chance

Burke never made the trade for Luongo, Nonis did.

Other than the Luongo trade, he was pretty terribad. Constantly gave up draft picks at the trade deadline for guys like Smolinksi, Weinrich, I think Aaron Brown too? Maybe it was Sean Brown? Some non factor. And when he did draft it was for Patrick White

Pretty bad, honestly. Wasn't a good drafter at all, gave out picks like candy. The Luongo deal was by far his crowning achievement but was only done at all because Keenan was smoking grass.

yay lots of draft picks for nobodies

Toronto has a history of this before Burke wouldn't give up assets, maybe management wants to go back to the old school

He wasn't *all* bad. Made some decent moves but just failed to advance the team to the next level. IMHO, the perfect "interm GM". Won't wreck the team but isn't a long-term solution either.

Sorry, I misread your post.

Nonis is a capable GM...I think he's a fairly smart guy...a lot less ego and bluster for sure. EPC is right though, he does have a tendancy to trade away picks.

We praised Nonis for the moves he didn't do over the moves he did

Remember the asking price for Brad Richards

Edler, Kesler and a 1st or along those lines

I don't have time to write because I am at work, but as much as I like to make fun, Nonis is a pretty good
GM. Some guys around here give him too hard of a time.

At the end of the day, he is simply unproven. Never had a chance to make his mark in a tight cap situation and made some ok moves, some good moves and some bad moves. He could very well turn out well for the Leafs; he's a wild card.

I think Nonis was decent. His reticence to overpay at the deadline was laudable, but his lack of aggression in the off-season is what put him in the predicament of putting band-aids on gunshot wounds at the deadline. If he'd been more aggressive in the off-season (like Gillis), his patience at the dealine wouldn't have been quite so galling for fans.

The most intriguing part of this all is how much of this (if any) had to do with a potential Luongo trade. If Leafs wanted Lu but Burke was hesitant to do so, they just showed their hand by this firing...

Either way, if I'm Gillis, I stick to my highest price and wait it out.

Totally agree. I am pregnant with expectation about this trade

The Leafs under Burke (via TSN):

GA/Game: 3.19 -- 30th
Penalty Kill: 76.1% -- 30th
GF/Game: 2.71 -- 14th
Power Play: 16.3% -- 26th

And yet I'm convinced it was off-ice stuff that got him fired in the end.
