Considering the Oilers stuck with their rebuild plan and now have 4 dynamic players as a direct result. As opposed canceling it after one fustrating year, and then undermining it was an utterly laughable trade that would get any other GM in the league fired for just suggesting it.

Yeah, think we are pretty safe in commenting on it.

Nonis is Burke's replacement according to McKenzie. Not sure if interim or perm. Looks like RL to TO is just about written in stone.

I thought he would have at least one more season to turn the ship.

I just heard about this on the Bear, think it's pretty great. Will Frasier mentioned it could be that ownership wasn't happy with his stance on not RFA's and his dislike for contracts that circumvent the cap. He could be why we are hearing all these Luongo to TO rumours and nothing has come of it.

I fired a text to Lochlind that said "Jesus couldn't GM the leafs into the playoffs" and he read it on air. I thought that was pretty funny haha.

Wouldn't be the first time Nonis has been left to clean up Burke's mess.

I am wallowing in the schadenfreude at the moment. This news has made my day 25% better. Especially given that he was likely fired for pushing for or turning down Luongo.

It's like hitting my two least favourite franchises with one stone.

Yup, there you go. Lightning season tickets at less than a third of the price I pay for an Oil King's season ticket.
Road trip!

Ha, a couple of years ago I saw that someone had determined that someone in Calgary could fly to Detroit to attend a Wings game for less than the price of a ticket to a Flames game.

I like Burke as a GM--he actually gets the job done and is interessting to see how he handles trades. I think he lost a power struggle behind the scenes

Nonis sticking with Burke's "retooling" plan. I guess we'll see how that works out.

So RL must have been the factor.

read a funny quote in the TSN comments section about Burke being fired.

"after the lockout, I expected an apology or fridge magent. this is over the top!"

too bad the Oilers didn't give their fans the same present and fire lowe and tambo.

4 years in Toronto, no playoffs and 13th last year? Ya, he sure gets the job done.

He also traded away 2/3 of the quality draft picks those lousy finishes yielded.

He really couldn't have done any worse.

We shouldn't really laugh. Once Tambo gets fired (it will happen), I'd expect we'll hire Burke as GM.

Yeah right and Shawn Horcoff will sign a deal that averages $5.5M per season...

Katz doesn't like media attention. Burke is a walking talking media hore circus.

TML could have actually been a good team had BB not made such bad moves:
Rask
Seguin
Hamilton (likely picked higher)
Reilly(likely pick higher and get Galy)
Gardiner

Pretty solid core

Dunno if that's true at all...

But I still think we'll see Burke here, unless someone else hires him first.

Only team not to make the playoffs since the last lockout.

Feel bad for Burke, but schadenfraude is right on.

Stay classy, Maple Leafs.

Dreger tweeted that Burke was shocked and couldn't talk about it right now.
