I actually am surprised EW hasn't made it to the NHL as yet, especially in the new NHL. I liked him as a Yote and was apprehensive about losing him. I agree with your posts that EW hasn't been given enough time to shine. I felt Yotes also didn't give him enough time. Of course, that was b/f the new NHL. That said, Michalek, IMO, is a young Teppo Numminen. If that doesn't give you an indication of how good I think Michalek will be, just ask Buffalo. Plus, Michalek is definitely a better defensive player at this stage of his career than Teppo ever was.

I think you seriously underrate Teppo.

I think some PHX fans will be disappointed with Michalek's next season. Just a hunch.

Is there a possibility that Z would have been exposed to waivers if the Wild put him on their minor-league team (either before the season or at some point during the season)?

just curious if the trade looks bad, but was a "lets get something instead of letting someone pick him off the waiver wire for nothing" kind of deal?

just trying to make you feel better

actually, I really like Westrum's game & believe he'll be an above average 3rd line centerman.

Now if you let Westrum walk....then you really got hosed.

Westrum is a free agent this summer and I just don't see Risebrough offering him a contract. There's still a few days left in the month ... but I just don't see EW remaining in the organization. This was inevitable once EW did little to get himself noticed during his brief stint with the Wild.

So many disappointments last season ...

I think one of the poster's hit the nail on the head. Michalek might have been picked up on waivers if we sent him down. One year of development for Voloshenko or letting Michalek walk?

If waivers were the problem, that would, of course, change everything. One could only hope it was a technical issue and not a Doug's-mental-capacity issue.

Yeah, Teppo was always great defensively. It was always his hallmark. Just as it will be for Michalek.

Hard to argue with a hunch, but I'd like to mention that Michalek was, far and away, Phoenix's most consistantly defensivley responsible blue-liner last season.
