tsn is saying that with the cba there is going to be a lot of player movement from now til the trade deadline and they wanted to move on the gm before that started.....so....mcphee said the phone is ringing off the hook. who's in play? if the trade winds are blowing hard they are blowing the caps way with as good as mcphee is in the trading market.

With Poti back, someone in the other thread mentioned that we're probably selling off some Defenseman. Maybe packaged with a forward for an upgrade, or straight up for a pick/prospect.

During his presser yesterday. Didn't imply that he himself would be making moves, but made it clear that lots going on around the league right now.

One would think that trere will be multiple bought out players available at discounted prices..discounted from their current deals anyway..

Buyouts are in the summer, not now.

i think we should be clear. poti is not back. poti himself says he feels better but there is still pain. poti himself says that he hopes to pass his physical but has not talked to mcphee about coming to camp to take one.

There's a ton of incentive for a team to trade a player rather than buy him out, though. Why pay a guy to play for another team when you could pocket that cash and get assets in return for that player? A lot of the buy out candidates could be on the move, or at least shopped heavily.

Exactly. For example, Ward at $3M might not be attractive to many teams, but at $1.5M you'd have to imagine he'd draw a lot more interest.

Even at 50% off, some guys might be hard to move though. You'll probably only see the worst contracts being bought out.

Dreger and McKenzie said the same thing with GMs around the league and to expect trades this weekend.

P.S. Here in Toronto all the talk is about Burke getting fired. Seems like Burke didn't want to trade for Luongo, citing the price was too high...or so the rumour goes.

Burke would have been perfect in 2009. He'd have traded a hot pocket to Murray for Pronger and been on our way to a cup.

I'd be fine with hiring him since we only have a couple holes left and he's probably the best bet in the league to get some or all of RPG. Imagine trading Laich and some futures for Ryan, getting Getzlaf and Perry to come here and signing Smid (another Burke tie in).

The new CBA also makes his stubborn love of short contracts much less of a comparative disadvantage.

I don't want Burke at all. Stubbornness is okay if you're smart, and he's not.

I was saddened by the canning of Brian Burke -- he's always been a great source of amusement to the rest of us. What are they going to do next -- sack Pierre McGuire?

He's not "smart" smart but he's got that derpy know-how that lets him do things like the Phaneuf trade or the Beauchemin trade (both times) or the Pronger trade. It works well for established teams that don't need endless patience to mine every nugget into valuable assets. Which is what he had to do with the Leafs who as a result have 20 6.5B-7C prospects.

Our drafting would go to **** though. Wish we could have McPhee and Burke as co-gms. One to carefully set the pieces and one to subsequently flip the chessboard over and hit you in the face with it.

TSN with the best goals between the lockouts.

Ovy made the list twice, at #9 and.. well you guessed the number and goal already.

Crosby's goal at #2 is beyond ridiculous. Franzen scored a similar goal that was MUCH nicer.

Geez. They need to slow the video down.

The two OV goals were the two that stood out to me but they must have added the crappy Crosby goal at #2 since the other OV goal is at #10 now.

The Stamkos goal was good. I don't remember seeing that one before.

They should include the Hal Gill in the net no-goal too.

At least the Crosby goal wasn't the one where he chipped it around Zidlicky, if it was I would of been pissed because Ovechkin did the same move before, but had to steal the puck back while doing it.

I'd love to have Burke as GM of the Caps. We've seen what McPhee can and cannot do. Burke is bold. The Caps will never win a Cup until they get an obsessed maniac like Burke.

You sure? I think McPhee did a pretty solid Burke impression in 2012.
