I agree .... I wish the bolded was still true, but I'm not so sure it is.
Yeah, no reason to think he won't be gunshy after the concussion. He doesn't have the tools to adjust his game either. He'd be an injury call-up at best on a good team.
I wouldn't mind the Oilers taking a look at Huskins, tough, veteran, not as old as most of the UFAs, would fit nicely as a 5-7 and a replacement for Sutton.
Listening to 1260 again this morning, I caught the tail end of a suggestion (possibly a rumor, I missed the beginning) the Oilers could bring or are looking at bringing Jim Vandermeer back with Sutton's injury.
...and Fraser heard a rumor the Canucks are close to signing Barker.
Yes. That Barker. The guy who couldn't cut with the Oilers or Dallas' AHL club.

I would be very interested in bring back Vandemeer on a 1 year deal. He'd be a good #6/#7 guy.
Smid - Petry
The Schultz's
Whitney - Vandemeer
Peckham
*Potter gets sent to the A
Definitely not world beaters, but could be ok if they stay healthy. I'd start Whitney on the third pairing and let him earn his way up the depth chart.

Yeah he would be a nice addition especially since we need a replacement for Sutton and can't rely on Peckham. Although Peckham from 2 seasons ago would be a nice addition.

I would have no problems with bringing back Vandermeer as a 6th guy. He's a step up on Potter and Peckham.

makes one think that if there is interest in guys like Vandermeer and Barker then we might be able to get something in return for someone like Potter and Peckham.

To the Van Province, I think, someone will have to look (I'm at work)
But reportedly both Vandermeer and Barker are on the way to VAN. It was an article about former teammates in CHI coming to help the Canucks or something.. although in the article Vandermeer is quoted as saying he 'has feelers out with a few teams' so I suppose that leaves a door open.
I'd like Vandermeer back in EDM, personally.

Agreed. Teams are always looking for guys that can play with an edge, and Peckham in his prime is probably a #5 dman who can make other teams lives hell, and hold them responsible if they do something to the stars
Matt Greene basically. People i don't think realize how huge Greene was in LA's cup victory and many of the same complaints about Greene then are what people are saying now about Peckham. Peckham at the end of the day was a quality AHLer, has had success in the NHL and has solid pedigree. Not only that he's a player type (defensive defenseman) that is hard to find, and almost all of the valuable one's are far older. Seriously look it up guys like Mitchell, Carkner, Scuderi, Greene, Smid, J.Smith, Staios, ect... typically take alot longer to reach their potential. You do get your Schultz's and Jackman's who make it early but it's not common in the slightest. And even if Peckham is never the caliber of player as some of those listed his enforcing abilities should add extra value to his role. I think we're way too impatient at times with our young players who aren't world class (i.e. Paajarvi, Peckham, Gagner). Not everybody develops like an Eberle or a 1st overall pick. Petry and Peckham are the same age and even Petry a far superior young talent is only hitting his stride now.
Vandermeer please. He is tough as nails. He would be in the line up most nights opposed to Hordichuk getting in 1/3 of the games. We need a guy in the line up like Vandermeer every night.
Still can't believe Vandy fought Big Mac and held his own.
Id be on board with bringing back Vandameer if nothing is in the works for trading for a stud to play in the top four. Still remember his fight with Lucic in Edmonton. Smiling, trading bombs with a pretty scary monster. He's either half crazy or has balls the size of grapefruits. And with 6/7 defencemen I always liked a guy that can bring that toughness for games you think you could use the extra muscle.
If we could pick up Regehr for cheap I still think thats the best bet. This isn't a playoff team when we're one injury away from having Peckham-Potter as a pairing in our top 6.
Also, what about one of the D from the devils? If Volchenkov is healthy I'd consider him. Or Tallinder.

Burke screwed himself over when he gave away all of those picks for Kessel. He could have had Seguin for crying out loud, which would have fixed their need for a center
