Sounds like ownership wants Luongo and Burke didn't want to do the deal if Mirtle is tweeting the truth.

Actually it could have been Hall as i doubt the Leafs would have been as good without the Kessel trade. Without that deal we could be talking about 3 straight 1st overall picks for TO and not Edmonton.

Apparently Burke wouldn't do the Kadri/Gardiner for Luongo deal and Leaf ownership is ready and willing to pull the trigger.

Very true. People underrate the impact Kessel has on the team. The first 2 seasons there's no way Seguin could even come close to doing what Kessel did, and even last year there was still a fairly sizeable gap. I can't imagine how much I'd be hating TO right now if they had Hall/Nuge and we had Seguin/Larsson (who I figure we would have taken)

Or are you referring to the one who sucked giant horse balls at the WJC tournament in Russia?

WJC gets blown WAY out of proportion when it comes to prospects and what they do. Its an incredibly small sample size to make a judgement. Not to mention he didn't even play all that bad. He didn't blow away the competition, but he was often Canada's most sound dman. He's been successful all through junior so I give him the benefit of the doubt here. Kid will be a solid NHLer and I would love to have him.

Sorry if this has been cleared up already, but when are teams allowed to trade?

Yes but right now Kessel is still better than Seguin and Hamilton believe it or not.

However I do understand that the trade was still bad because the Leafs aren't winning now so they might as well be stockpiling for the future. But mentioning Hamilton is pointless because he's a complete non-factor right now.

The tentative date is Saturday once the CBA has been ratified by the NHLPA. then it's game on.

Everybody looking for blueliners. I think its time for teams to start keeping 8 on the roster. The last guy you could look for a more versatile guy that can play on the fourth line once in awhile. Im becoming convinced that 7 guys almost never gets you through the season and a call up forward is always easier to hide on a hockey team.

IMHO

Only the Flyers would contemplate paying the contracts of Luongo and Bryz.

So if the Flyers bought out Bryz would you take a chance on him? Like a 1-2 year deal?

It wouldnt have been the worst thing in the world if we ended up with Seguin, Landeskog/Couturier, Galchenyuk (I know, they would have taken Murray)

Vandermeer would be nice insurance in case Peckham doesn't bounce back.

I'd take Vandermeer back. He was pretty good in the time he was here I thought.

Seguin and RNH are close. Larsson would give us the coveted top pairing defenseman. Yakupov who we just drafted is very similar to Hall.
At any event, Seguin, Eberle, Yakupov, Larsson, Schultz, and soon Klefbom is a tremendous core to build around.

I'd do it, he has his off night and sometimes he brings everything he has. He would be a good backup if Dubnyk works out!

....wait

Didn't he say he wouldn't go to Edmonton because it's colder than Siberia?

He was terrible in the first half of the season but good in the second half. That fight with Lucic was a thing of beauty.

Obviously I don't know for sure but I wouldn't be surprised if Schultz thinks harder about where he wants to sign if competing with Larsson for ice time is in the mix.
