I will join you man. I have been through enough and quite frankly trading Gardiner is not the right move at all.

They better not mess this up.

No. SO what, we need a #1 center then? Let's trade Rielly and a first for Jerome Iginla and be completely screwed for ANOTHER 8 years.

I was referring to the Jersey burning and renouncing fandom and such, regardless of the price paid.

Even if the Leafs lose in a landslide, any Leafs fan would cheer for them in the playoffs no matter how badly they got burned.

Yes its a position of strength. Doesn't mean trading our best young defender is a good idea.

Also, I believe Gunnarsson can play either side.

33-34 is not old in goaltending years. Luongo can likely still be elite for the next 5 seasons.

Gardiner is not a guy you play and develop on your third pairing. You have no need for him. Plus you also have Ballard. I would think Canucks would have more use for Franson. While not as valuable, who do you have on your RD right now:

Bieksa
Tanev
?

If Phaneuf is moved to LD do you know what our depth chart looks like at RD? Komisarek, Holzer and only God knows who else beyond that. Besides, half of the guys you mentioned are entirely potential and how often does potential reach it's peak? The Leafs simply aren't ready to be dealing high-value futures for insta-help. We don't want another bubble team

No, he's not. It is just a title used to throw some extra severance money Burke's way. Plus as someone else mentioned, it's a smart PR move.

It is a baseless title, it happens all the time in big business. Burke no longer has any dealings with Leafs operations.

Even Bobby Mac laughed off the notion of the "senior advisor" role. Is everyone here a bunch of truck drivers? This is a normal business practice. Top guy gets let go, stays on as "advisor" or "consultant" to get some extra severance cash and ease transition and employee morale.

Phaneufs a RD

the bottom 3 arent ready (or even close to being ready save for Rielly)

so that leaves us with Gunnar (solid defensively), Liles (offensive, but coming off a concussion), and the Gardiner who is our most valuable dman

What I meant is that he'll certainly fit the "aging" mold of players once/if the Leafs are ready to compete for the cup, 2-3 years from now.

Luongo's window of top tier play is still long enough that if the Leafs can't ice a legit team infront of him during it, then they're just incompetent.

Dion is a 2way dman. He plays on the first PK unit, and against the other teams best players every night. He faced the second or third highest level of competition amongst Dmen in the league last season.

Presumably Edler or Garrison would be tried out on the right. Ballard will likely be gone by the off season. I agree Gardiner doesn't make much sense for us, but he very well may be expendable from Toronto. As I said, I'd prefer JVR/Lupul, though.

The Luongo will take the Leafs on a run in the playoffs and you'll have to go buy a new one...

Man fans overrate their young players. Gardiner good? Yes. Worth swearing off your allegance to your favourite team? C'mon now, get a grip.

Dion Phaneuf had an amazing rookie season, multiple Norris potential yada yada....at 27 he's an overpaid dman who struggles with defense.
