Would you rather have Ballard & his contract on the 3rd pair over Gardiner.

Plus we will likely trade or buy Ballard out at the end of the season.

Clarification on me saying "eating their words"

Sorry for the confusion.

Man fans overrate their young players. Gardiner good? Yes. Worth swearing off your allegance to your favourite team? C'mon now, get a grip.
I doubt the backlash would be as bad as when Gillis dealt Cody Hodgson.

yada yada, hes a number one defense who doesnt stuggle with defense. Leafs played run and gun and he obviously couldnt transition from the O zone to the D zone that well and only got beaten due to his foot speed, which was caused by a deep cut in his leg the season before.

Don't know a lick of French but I saw Roberto and Flyers.

Wat.
If you can't buy out Pronger(LTIR), then I'd assume Bryzgalov is next on the list, right?

I think it is true. Not that Phaneuf is even half as bad as people on this forum seem to think he is, he is a capable NHL defender. But the general consensus, and from personally watching him so much, he does struggle with decision making defensively in all three zones.

It was said today that Dave Nonis is the one who did a lot of work making phone with other General Managers prior to Toronto making trades over the past few years. For example they said he and Darryl Sutter spoke for 6 weeks prior to Toronto and Calgary making the Dion Phaneuf trade in Janurary 2010.

So knowing that I still think any trade with Toronto and Vancouver involving Roberto Luongo will include Tyler Bozak, Nazem Kadri, and a 2nd round pick. So I think the Vancouver fans shouldn't see this change as a situation where Mike Gillis can ask for Jake Gardiner, Matt Frattin and a 1st round pick type of trade.

I hope not. That was downright creepy, like he was a child borne of their own stomach...

Players come and go, rise and fall, best not to get too attached to them.

I thought the ONLY teams in on Luongo were Tor & Fla?

I guess the people that have been telling us otherwise knew nothing....

Of course most if us will still cheer for them but just making the playoff wont make it worth it no matter the price.

Years ago people hated when JFJ used to trade futures for playoff runs. A large part of the reason the team is in the ruff shape it is now is because of years of him doing that.

Not quite the same, mate. Luongo is a quality player who could drag you into the playoffs. Gomez is an embarrassment that shouldn't even play in the NHL.

I saw that. It's also been pointed out that Burke was not on board with Nonis's viewpoint of what he would deal for Luongo. So did Burke adopt the stance of Bozak + Kadri + 2nd or bust? Or was it Nonis moving more towards what Gillis demanded, and felt that Bozak + Kadri + 2nd wasn't enough? Time will tell.

I dont see why we wouldn't unless he has a terrible season. We have tons of cap space going forward.

So apparently Nonis agreed with a deal of Luongo for something.

And the same source thats telling us this, says that something was Kadri + Gardiner.

Is this enough evidence that it was about Luongo? Edit: As the breaking point. One factor of many, but the final straw. Not saying it is the sole reason.
If Toronto trades Gardiner for Luongo I'll be speechless.

To all of those saying Nonis will not trade Gardiner, Rielly, et al., because that would go against his vision, the owners most likely told him to make a deal with Gillis for Roberto.

I very seriously doubt Nonis cares enough about Jake Gardiner to get in the way of making a good impression to the owners and securing his spot as Leafs GM for a number of years into the future.

I can almost guarantee that Vancouver will be getting their hands on one or two very valuable pieces from Toronto.
