There's another CBA between now and that being relevant, and ten years. There's no reason to get rid of our best player right now for the fear of what might be in an uncertain future.
Besides, there's always a loophole.
Unfortunately I doubt Lou will still be in charge in 10 years.

I see Lou "retiring" in the next 24 months, seriously. I mean how long will he continu doing this, the man is like 70 years old, or somewhere around that age.

I think this is unpredictable. He could retire soon, or he could be around for a while yet. It all depends on how he feels and what he wants to be doing.
I think if we'd won the Cup he might have retired shortly thereafter, but getting so close might be the impetus he needs to stay.

Dick LeBeau - Age 75... still coaching the defense for the Steelers. If you like what your doing why quit?

Outside of Dick LeBeau, I don't know anyone who's over the age of 70 and is still a important part of a pro franchise. He's the exception and not the rule.
Maybe he doesn't want to be alone with the wife 24/7, who knows
I can see him for about 5 more years. Not much more than that. Although I can see him retiring in 2 or 3 more years too. It's been rumored that Lou said he would stay with the Devils as long as Marty still playing. Not sure if it's legit though. Also been rumored that he's grooming Marty to take over that spot. Not sure if that's accurate, but I can see Marty taking over some spot in the front office when he retires.

I've also been wondering what the penalty is if we bought out Kovy within the last five years of the deal...would the 'cap recapture' formula still apply, or would it be normal buyout charges?
Bruce Willis. He was in the area and couldn't help but miss the press conference. Growing up in NJ, he felt he had to be there for such an occasion.
John Maclean (The full head of skin coach) actually reminds me of my high school principal. This guy was a bit uglier, and slightly older at the time though. God I hated that principal too man. Guy was a real ass.
I think Lou will let him dangle for a little longer before signing him. Poor guy really wants to come back again.

Not a chance. Kovalchuk won't be retiring for many years yet, there's no reason to buy him out now for something we fear ten years from now.
There has to be a personal problem with Sykora if Lou does not sign him when this is settled. Not a personal grudge or anything. Just some kind of hockey decision other than giving someone else a chance. Butler would be replacing Sykora, but who replaces Parise unless you combine a bunch of guys, and Sykora being in that list of guys?
I can't see because he was bad enough to have been a healthy scratch in the playoffs, that this is enough reason for him not to be brought back. Had we re signed Parise I'd understand not bringing him back. For Lou to re sign POS Janssen, and not Sykora I have to think there is a reason other than ''It's time to give someone else a chance''
We were only dead middle in scoring last year in the regular season. That was with two top 10 league scorers, three 30+ goal scorers, five 20+ goal scorers Sykora included. There really is no reason not to sign him unless he wants multiple years or too much money.
