All I'm saying is there has to be a reason other than ''It's time to give a younger player a chance'' if Sykora is not brought back. With how bad he wanted to be here, turning down other teams before the lockout started in hopes to be brought back here, etc. No doubt he probably would have gotten a better deal had he signed somewhere before the lockout. Now since he'll have to take what he can get he will probably get less.
Maybe Pete told Lou he would prefer he doesn't come back? I doubt that though especially when Pete is not high on Tedenby at all. If we would get rid of a defenseman, and send Janssen to Albany there would be a spot for Tedenby, and Sykora, as well as Butler.

I think the average fan would get caught up in the names: Staal, Girardi, McDonagh, Del Zotto. They won't look at depth or the actual value of the players on the ice. Guys like Salvador, Volchenkov, Greene, and Fayne would be vastly underrated because they aren't sexy names and they fly under the radar. Devils fans know their true value, but fans around the league wouldn't be enamored because they aren't big names. I don't think people would take depth into account either. Tallinder/Larsson v. Stralman/Eminger would probably not even be considered.

Devils defense is vastly underrated, and it always has been. But yeah, the Devils depth is vastly better, and it's not like the Rangers top four is far superior to the Devils top four, not at all. I think the Devils depth makes up for not being as good as the Rangers top four.

they can have merrill or josefson. a pick, meh, so be it. urbom and matteau are no brainers. this kid is the real deal. did u watch or keep up with any of the khl? hes legit. im loathe to deal jake because the need for a center will be even more apparent once zajac is gone. but if thats what itd cost.....id think hard about it. they cant have both of merrill and jake but one of either is a go.

I view him being the next 100,000,000 Russian if he gets close to his potential. The kid is a stud I'd be thrilled to get him.
