I think if Burke moved to Boston it would be hilarious

Brian Burke in Edmonton? Over Lowe's dead body. They've made up somewhat since their feud but they aren't close buddies or anything. There are about 17 candidates in the Oilers good ol' boy network to hire before they would even think about considering Burke.

You mean for better or for worse?

Funny thing is every good move he made he followed that up with a few lousy ones. Some just because they were bad and some because of his principles. This times his principles will actually help the team in the future and he gets canned for it, pretty ironic.

...in the not-so-shocking news department for today, the NHL BoG's ratified the new CBA with a 30-0 vote.

Feel bad for Burke, but schadenfraude is right on.

Stay classy, Maple Leafs.

Dreger tweeted that Burke was shocked and couldn't talk about it right now.
I'm shocked that Burke didn't yap about something - he loves hearing himself...

Good for the Leafs but bad for everyone else. I really enjoyed blowhard Burke spouting off to the media.

Yeah one of the best quotes I recall TEAM1260 replaying again and again was something like this:

"I don't give a damn what his passport says, if he can play hockey that's all that matters."

Well unfortunately Burke he can't play hockey.

Pretty solid core
Rask was traded at the 2006 draft. Burke was busy trying to trade for Pronger at the time.

I wonder if the Leafs realize the last time Nonis was the GM of a team the Canucks missed the playoffs...

from what I've been reading it sounds like Burke was let go because of his attitude, not getting luongo, and some troubling "personal issues"

I didn't try and investigate what burke was up to in his personal life that is making tongues wag as I'm sure I really don't want to know.

I hope he is able to fulfil his dream to form the Ex-GM Barn Fighting League (ExGMBL). I'm sure TSN would sign on for anything involving him.

I love listening to Nonis on Toronto radio. Still says he wants to build from the goaltender out while having a big team that won't get pushed around. Meanwhile they draft 2 skilled slightly undersized defencemen in Rielley and Finn.

Sounds like Kovie is gonna try and stay overseas this year. As if Lou's penalty for circumventing the CBA wasn't enough now the player himself wants to punish him. Talk about selfish.

"@SlavaMalamud: "I want to stay in St. Petersburg but I have contractual obligations in the NHL, which will be hard to break" - Kovalchuk to Sport-Express"

See to me that says he is placating the KHL faithful and trying to not burn any bridges while making it clear that he's gone after the all-star game. Any time someone says something BUT something opposite, I generally assume everything before the "but" was just them being politically correct.

I guess we'll see how it plays out. It sure would suck for Devil fans to lose Parise and Kovalchuk in the same off season. At that point they may as well shoot for Mackinnon

I gave up a pick(which turned out to be Morgan Rielly) and a couple of prospects for him in my keeper league in the offseason.

Yeah this could be a set up for a big fall from grace after a SCF appearance much like the Oilers. I honestly don't think Brodeur has much left to offer either. They have some decent young talent on that team but yeah just not sure where they'll go from here.

Anyone hear the interview by Stauffer with Bill Waters from Toronto?

Ouch!

Certainly makes you glad to be an Oiler fan.

Didn't have a good word to say about Burke, Phaneuf is a dressing room cancer in Toronto and Burke only got him because nobody else was interested, Nonis is decent but won't last a year and a half etc, etc

This from a TO media guy.

It's on Fridays edition of Oilers Now.

Man, the Calder race this year is going to be tough. Think it'll be a big battle between Oilers and Blues with Tarasenko and Schwartz both getting top 6 spots.

What a hilarious start to the new NHL season. The Flyer sign Kurtis Foster and Montreal tells Scott Gomez "yeah, if you could just not come in Sunday, or any day, that'd be Great"

Anyone want to take a flyer on Gomez for a season? Omark for Gomez?
Nobody?

Good.
