"Gary and Bill have the complete and unconditional support of the board" Jacobs

Bettman says sorry to fans and has support (somehow) from the board.

What do people expect? He did what they asked. I'm sure they would've loved to have avoided a lockout but the owners will have made it pretty clear in no uncertain terms what they wanted and he was the fall guy who had to go out and get it.

When I read the thread title, I really hoped it was going to be about Thorne and Clement.

But weren't a lot of people on here claiming they were getting angry with him and were going to vote him out?!

Maybe have a switch day, where Thorne and Clement run the league and Bettman and Daly announce a game?

Not saying this will happen, but that's the sort of thing you hear just before some management type decides to "leave to spend more time with my family".

I think it's incredible that Bettman is able to unite the BoG the way that he does. Incredible leader.

He won't retire until after the NHL's 100th birthday.

He does what they want. Remember he works at their pleasure.

Not surprised. Don't really care. Wish the NHLPA would appoint someone other than Fehr.

I don't believe the "complete and unconditional" business for a minute. It would look just as bad if this vote had not been unanimous, just as if the vote to lock the players out had not been unanimous, so some owners hold their nose and vote the way Bettman wants them to. If you were an owner and were not happy about the lockout, you wouldn't demonstrate it in such a public way.

Especially coming from Jacobs, you really must have just rolled out of the Cabbage Patch if you believe that.

Just words, a reporter could have asked the Leafs Ownership just last week if they are still behind Burke as GM and they probably would have said something like "We are 100% behind Brian Burke as the GM of the Toronto Maple Leafs for the foreseeable future"

If you look close enough, you can see the puppet strings attached to Jacobs arms.

I hope he's there to hand out the cup this year. I want to hear his reception.

Looks like Fehr will be 72-74 when the new CBA expires. I don't think he's going to negotiate the next one.

This can be continued here:

With lockout now over, it's time for Gary Bettman to step down
