No offense to Burke but how does he help us? He overvalues home grow guys and overpays for his personal wishlist. We have that covered.

If the lockout has taught us nothing else, it's that all these guy's (or the vast majority's) loyalty is primarily to themselves. There's nothing wrong with that, it's how most people get through life.

Nothing wrong with what Kovy is doing, hell even if he's making 11 mil this year...after lockout escrow and taxes that's barely 2-3 million.

If some Russian guy was like hey we'll give you 500k tax free (25-33% of your year's salary) to stick around for the AS game! You better believe I'd miss the weigh ins at training camp.

When your employer makes a $100 million committment for your services and you decide after 2 years you're just going to act in whatever manner you feel like at any given moment, even if it's in opposition to your agreed upon commitment, there's something wrong with that. What happened to having integrity and exhibiting professionalism? Kovy's actions do not just affect him, they affect his teammates and an entire organization that is relying on him to act with integrity & professionalism and uphold his contractual agreement.

Do you think this current Rangers squad would be successful if the players' loyalty began and ended with their individual selves and our players exhibited the mindset of let's say, Sean Avery?

Let's not play the integrity game lol. I'm 100% on the owners' side of the lockout, but when the owners say oops we don't feel like paying your contracts in full anymore...well you have to figure a few of the high earners would be pissed.

Yeah Kovy who (along with his agent) made it known how important it was for him to receive a $100 mil contract. I feel real bad for him... How much money did he bank his first 2 years of his contract???

What you describe in your post happens in the workplace all the time. When employers lose money they extend paycuts to their employees... Us average joe's deal with this all the time. Why should we feel bad for professional athletes with multi-million dollar contracts who have to endure the same circumstances?

I have no reason to not believe this either, since the Flyers can buy out Bryzgalov with no penalty (compliance buyout).

Sure, and if my employer extends a paycut you better believe I'll jump on a chance to earn 30% of my annual salary in one day in order to skip some bs weigh in at work.

Not until after the season. That's a lot of money tied up in goalies even if it's just for half a season.

Wait we all know that promising goalies usually become unstable in Philly for whatever reason, but does the opposite work?

Hopefully nobody overpays (i.E Gardiner+ or Schenn+/Voracek+). Sure we haven't got to worry about the Nucks in the Regular Season, but adding one of those players to their already quite stacked lineup would give anyone a run for their money in the playoffs. Add they're not downgrading in goal all that much IMO.

Brooks article on exactly how the season was saved and Bettman basically in my opinion out of touch with the players and fans

Quote:
The Post has learned that Bettman’s ultimate willingness to listen on the final day of the lockout was the key to ending the stalemate.

Sources report it was a one-hour meeting last Saturday attended by only Bettman, NHL attorney Bob Batterman and the Coyotes’ universally respected Shane Doan that broke the logjam over the critical issue regarding the 2013-14 cap number.

Doan, who left money on the table as a free agent this summer to remain in Phoenix, explained that the league’s proposed $62.5M — increased at that point from the original $60M — would disrupt the lives of players and their families who would be forced to move because of trades and buyouts that would not otherwise take place under the union’s more forgiving $64.3M transition number.

The Coyotes’ winger convinced Bettman and Batterman that the issue wasn’t about financial gain for the players, but on the contrary, for players would inevitably suffer greater escrow loss via a higher cap. It was, Doan said, about family life.

Suitably impressed, the NHL power brokers agreed to meet the NHLPA’s number and by doing so resolved one of the few make-or-break issues that remained between the parties.
