Don't get it, unless that's Brayden Schenn.

Why Grossman?

I hope that's C Schenn and not D Schenn. And why would PHI give up either Schenn when they just paired them together?

Yeah, makes absolutely no sense.
Philly gets the Schenn brothers together only to break them apart and they deal from a position of weakness, to a team that would probably have Schenn on their bottom pairing...

I think it's Luke considering Vancouver is supposedly asking for a D-man.

I didn't realize Adrian Dater (an Avs reporter in Colorado) was Vancouver?

Thanks...

Maybe L. Schenn? I don't know. He was rumoured to have been offered by Burke at the draft.

That is Holmgren. While the trades were shocking, people expect erratic behavior from him.

Today has just been absolutely bizarre. Conflicting stories coming out of credible sources. Burke fired a week before the season starts. Rumors of ownership trying to force a trade, solely based on personal disdain and the desire of millions in playoff revenue. CBA ratified. Nonis taking Burke's job after he was fired, again. Him wanting to bring in Luongo, again. Philly, who has a goalie locked up on a long and brutal contract rumored to be interested in a goalie who is locked up on a long and brutal contract.

Just bonkers. Downright bonkers.

Agreed. Just something to settle into "hockey's finally back." Part of me needs convincing.

I know, it's gotta be Brayden, but then why was Grossman valued over him?

And it's quite funny that Canuck fans feel a huge decision such as letting a premier GM go is somehow tied to his unwillingness to trade Jake Gardiner for Roberto Luongo.

The fact of the matter is that Mike Gillis and Roberto Luongo are preparing to part ways. Gillis has been tasked with trading Luongo, which means that most leverage has been taken away from Gillis in negotiations, regardless of how many times Gillis has said he'd be okay with Cory and Roberto sharing duties heading into the season.

The whole hockey world knows he has to trade Roberto. Mike Gillis has his back against the wall in this particular circumstance, IMO.

Dater rarely has any inside information on the Avs when it comes to trades or free agent signings and he covers the team every single day. Avs are one of the most tight-lipped organizations in the league but still....

I highly doubt he knows what specific players the Canucks are asking for and which players the Flyers will or won't deal for Luongo. This goes against everything I've seen from Dater over the years.

If this is all true, I imagine that Paul Holmgren spent most of his free time during the off-season playing in many fantasy sim hockey leagues. The way he goes through players every year reminds me of a bored sim league hockey GM trading away his players just for the sake of change.

That's wishful thinking.
The real GMs that have their backs up against the wall are the ones that have questionable goaltending and risk wasting another season. I think Gillis would be in a much better position with both goalies, making the playoffs, than a team like Toronto that is desperate for goaltending and will miss the playoffs without an upgrade.
If Gillis can't get the offer he wants, he can wait until a team gets desperate and falters as the season goes on due to subpar goaltending.

Dater is a huge Toronto / Leaf hater. When rumours were swirling that JM Liles would be traded to Toronto, he went on a tirade against Toronto and mixed in between all of the insults, he was adamant that Toronto would not be getting Liles in a trade.

It wouldn't surprise me if he's stirring the pot right about now simply because of the Toronto connection in the rumours.
