Why is Grossmann the first choice and not B.Schenn? I'm guessing Gillis wants Grossmann+Voracek for Lu and Ballard?

The fact of the matter is that Mike Gillis and Roberto Luongo are preparing to part ways. Gillis has been tasked with trading Luongo, which means that most leverage has been taken away from Gillis in negotiations, regardless of how many times Gillis has said he'd be okay with Cory and Roberto sharing duties heading into the season.

The whole hockey world knows he has to trade Roberto. Mike Gillis has his back against the wall in this particular circumstance, IMO.

When you have an asset that multiple parties are interested in, even if you _should_ part ways with that asset quickly, are you really backed against a wall?

As long as you hold the hammer, as is the case here, you have options.

Are all these sources even reliable or are they just pulling our leg? I guess that's why it's called *rumours*.

Dater confirmed it's Brayden Schenn.

I would guess Gillis is asking for Grossman + B. Schenn for Luongo.

Why would we trade a top 4 D man and a player expected to be on our first line for an overpaid goalie that's getting forced out and a player who has been a healthy scratch many times since being traded to Vancouver?

There won't be a ceiling high enough for me to avoid bashing my head on if we get Schenn for Luongo.

Ergo, it's not happening.

so now that the CBA ratified, can trade be made now or do teams have to wait until the camps open?

I agree with you about that.

As for this talk that the Flyers now want Luongo I can't see that. It was reported that when they asked Anaheim about Bobby Ryan the asking price was Sean Couturier and Bryaden Schenn.

Prior to them signing Shea Weber to that offer sheet they wanted to trade for him and Nashville also asked for both Sean Couturier and Bryaden Schenn.

If it's true that Mike Gillis wants Jake Gardiner and Nazem Kadri from Toronto, then he is at least going to want those two from Philadelphia and based on what's happened I don't see Paul Holmgren wanting to give them up.

You can go and actually read...

Who know's but even James Duthie posted that the Flyers are interested:

Quote:
@tsnjamesduthie: Despite some denials, the tweet earlier from @EnricoCiccone is accurate. The Flyers are interested in Roberto Luongo.
Quote:
@tsnjamesduthie: Doesn't mean they are going to get him. Doesn't necessarily mean they'll make an offer. But they've inquired. Could buy out Bryz in June.

It wouldn't surprise me if he's stirring the pot right about now simply because of the Toronto connection in the rumours.

Are Duthie, Ciccone, Mirtle and Spector also TO haters?

Luongo is getting to be the best of the NHL tweeters.

From Hockey Widow (A person who has been known to have provided insight into the Canucks Organization in the past):

Quote:
-No trade imminent between Vancouver and Toronto. Apparently some pieces agreed on but what was missing was that blue chip player that Burke was stubborn on.

-Canucks want a center and a young top defenseman for Luongo at a minimum.

-Apparently the market for Luongo is growing, and there are teams that want the Canucks to wait to the summer to trade him so they can use their buy outs to make room for him.

If Gillis can't get the offer he wants, he can wait until a team gets desperate and falters as the season goes on due to subpar goaltending.
Due to Brian Burke just being fired, I think Dave Nonis is feeling pretty secure in his position right about now. Even if the next three years are absolute failures, he's most likely not going to be fired.

Dave Nonis is going to get 4-5 years here in Toronto and his job security is not dependent on Roberto Luongo. Senior management at MLSE could have said "do whatever you can to acquire Roberto," but if prices in negotiation go too high, Nonis will simply report back that prices exceed what he's willing to pay.

Lol really? Add him to the bunch of sad little leaf haters. It's amazing that someone who is supposed to be a professional, has their own personal agenda against another team like that.

The divide as to what Nonis was willing to give and what Burke was willing to do is known now. Anselmi and MGMT are aware of the difference. If the Luongo deal had _anything_ to do with Burke's firing, you have to believe the pressure is now on Nonis to conclude what Burke could not. That's _if_ it had anything to do with his firing.

Luongo + Edler for Both Schenn's

Edit: I think this deal favours the Flyers a bit but it makes sense for the Canucks. Gets us a much needed RH defensive dman and gives us a top 4 of.
Hamhuis-Bieksa
Garrison-Schenn

With Garrison playing on his natural side.

Gives us a player who can step right into Kesler's spot and slides down to give us an elite 3rd line. And he is the right age gap behind Sedin and Kesler for the long term. Flyers get a Pronger lite in Edler and an elite #1 Goalie.
