And despite the denial from Toronto Maple Leafs COO and president Tom Anselmi, I believe the last straw was Burke’s reluctance to trade for star Canucks goalie Roberto Luongo.
That’s a sentiment shared by several NHL team execs we talked to Wednesday, who believe the rest of the Leafs' front office is pro-Luongo, but Burke wasn’t sold on him.
(On a side note, expect trade talks between the Leafs and Canucks to heat up big time now that Dave Nonis is GM. Nonis acquired Luongo during his days as Vancouver's GM and has always been high on him.)
Either Burke was way too aggressive and about to give up the future of the Leafs to get Luongo ... or way to unwilling to take on a long term contract for an inconsistent goalie ... or the boss was telling the truth when he said it had nothing to do with any possible Luongo deal.

Pick an extreme .... any extreme ...
Or Bettman asked for TOR to hold off firing Burke till the best time to take the heat off him, BOG, and the NHL.
Rumors flying all over form credible sources that the Flyers have entered the Luongo sweeps. Because, you know, one overpaid goalie signed for the next decade isn't enough for them

Holmgren is bat-**** crazy.
not unless Bryz has indicated he wouldn't mind stying in Ruia ad be suspended unil he culd be bought ou
Kulikov, Del Zotto, Ryan O'Reilly, Subban, and Jamie Benn are all RFAs. I doubt any of them would sign an offer sheet with us, but man, it would be a dream come true if Poile is pissed about the Weber thing and took a shot at one. I think on Kuli, ROR, PK, and Benn, the team would match just about anything, but overpaying MDZ a bit (5.5mil x 6years) could put the Rangers in a tough spot with cap hell coming.
Weber-MDZ
Josi-Klein
Ellis-Hannan

Sign me up. Never will happen, but fun to think about.
I'm from Toronto. Any interest in Phil Kessel by Preds fans? I know you guys were the runner up for Kessel when Boston was trading him.
David Poile seems to really like Phil from his days with USA Hockey.
What you'd be getting:
- $5.4M cap hit, UFA in July of 2014.
- 6th leading scorer in NHL (2011/12)
- 82 points in 82 games (2011/12)
- Automatic 35 goal scorer, could one day score 50.
- Just turned 25 years old
- Small town American kid (Wisconsin)
- Doesn't love media attention
- High level talent, top 5 wrist shot in hockey
- Improved playmaker last season
- Loves poker

Anyone is interested in anyone at the right asking price. What would Toronto want?
Just seeing your avatar, Goc, almost makes me as excited as the abbreviated wacky season we are about to enter. Business cat is a classic. I really don't know what we'll get with this 48 games.
I'd rather hold on to Watson and Wilson. Big rugged young power forward types. Great for the playoffs. Kessel while incredibly skilled is the type of guy that tends to disappear in the playoffs.

Kessel: 15 points in 15 playoff games.
The only reason I'd be wary of a deal like this is his contract length. We only get 1 real season out of him, so he's essentially a 1 year rental in my eyes. It's hard for me to take this season seriously I guess. Also, 3 years in a row is a long time without a 1st round draft pick.
Watson, Wilson, and a 1st for Kessel is interesting.
That's a lot of potential going the other way and our third consecutive 1st we'd lose(though I'd rather move a 1st for Kessel instead of Gaustad and Fisher)
I'd probably do this deal just because Kessel will be exactly what we've been missing since radulov and while I love Watson and Wilson as prospects they are potential now, Kessel is a sure thing.
The only thing I don't like is that it is a lot to give up. When I look at the future of our forward corps I see Wilson, Watson and Smith leading the way. Giving those two away ,plus another 1st we could use to replenish, would be a high price to pay. Maybe if you took one of the pieces out it'd be a definite yes.

carolina gave up the 8th pick in the draft, a 3rd line center and a young dman for a better player in staal.
I don't forsee us having the 8th pick so I would think a first around 20 or so, a young dman who is 2 years from even thinking about seeing the light of day and wilson should be enough if you are going by trade values.
Will we make any significant trades in the next day or two?
I'm not really expecting it, but, who knows right now. First they need to complete the ratification process, sign the MOU, and establish the timeline for operations to begin.
