He'd have to pick his offence back up again too. He doesn't produce points like a #1 should.

No, I do too. I wouldn't say great, but he is not expendable either. I see him settling in on our middle pairing eventually.

I'm convinced Greene could put up the numbers if he wanted to, but he's more focused on preventing them than scoring them.

Most of Greene's production off the top of my head came during the year Lemaire was here the full season. 09/10, and he was used on the PP a lot during that time. Many of his points, and goals came from the PP. There was one point we had a top 5 PP in the league the first half of that year, but then it imploded along with the rest of the team.

Greene is just like Salmela when he takes a shot on a rush, wide against the grain every time until he catches that top right corner or far post...just like Salmela.

Greene's injury didn't help his production last year and the year prior, everybody's production suffered because of the slow start

Greene's big year in 09-10 was mostly due to PP time. He had 16 pts on the PP and 21 ES. He was 33rd in pts among Dmen, and 38th at ES pts. Some people don't realize that even offensive defensemen only put up 30-40 pts at even strength.

EDIT: Actually only 7 defensemen had 30 or more pts at ES last year.

Exactly. Greene doesn't get PP time with Kovy, Larsson, and Zidlicky around, and because they wanted a right handed shot on the point. He'll probably never score that many again.

We need another D-Man like Neidermayer.

Speed, agility, vision, poise. He was more like a Defensive forward than an Offensive Defense-man at times. Plus, he had a grit not often found.

We could also use a reliable D like Rafalski. I liked Rafalski. Solid, reliable, durable and competitive. Of course, he didn't work quite as well when Stevens wasn't on the ice, but he was still solid.

There's no D in Jersey that I dislike or anything, but we lack a bit of depth.

We definitely don't lack depth, we lack top end talent.

Fayne on the PP over Greene hurts my eyes.

I get that it's nice to have symmetrical handedness, but DeBoer goes overboard. Or maybe it was Oates who did that dumb crap with Clarkson in the faceoff circle.

i like Fayne on the powerplay, his point shots just "will" themselves on goal which creates rebounds for Clarkson and alike. maybe without #9 around it wont be that great of a skill, but i think Fayne brings a ton of value to the PP. Greene's shot is nothing special and his puck distribution isnt that good either, i think DeBoer/Oates made the right choice there

the fact Clarkson is on the powerplay speaks volumes about our RW depth. Oh that's right, he takes faceoffs.

:/

Clarkson's a great PP guy though, and he's been used on the PP ever since 07/08 when he was playing on the 4th line!

The faceoff thing does suck though. Would be cool to see only Zajac, and Henrique taking PP faceoffs, or Josefson too if he eventually plays on the PP. Same for PK with those guys taking faceoffs.

Who wouldn't want Clarkson on the PP? He's a great garbage man who stands in front of the net. In fact, he's the only one who does that consistently. Man knows his strengths.

Agreed, and with Parise gone he'll have more PP time.

Please for the love of god though no Parise stuff play! That annoyed the hell out of me every game. You don't know how bad that pissed me off when he would stay behind the net, wait for the puck, and then try to stuff it in. The only time that worked last year was against Dwayne Roloson!

What kind of minutes do you see Larsson getting this year?

Hard to say, given our glut of defensemen.

I am going to guess Larsson is #1 in 5 on 5 ice time out of our defensive group.

He's been solid in Albany. He should get a ton of minutes. But that's my hope

i think he'll probably get 2nd pairing minutes even strength, 2nd unit pp, and probably still wont see much of him on the pk.

Last year Larsson had the most 5 on 5 minutes for the entire team.

We played Larsson way too many minutes the first half of the season, and was already gassed and had slowed down by the end of the season. (The Subban hit didn't help either.)
