Jesus.. april 5th.. that would be crazy. What the playoffs would start the next week if less.

So are the Rangers on the hook for Redden's cap hit this year? Next year?

Unless those radio personalities know something that no one else knows, there is no way to just "cut a player free" without buying him out. They can't send him anywhere, including Europe where the cap wouldn't count (its the same as sending him to AHL)
Dom this is it. I only catch some of it.

The key word is play.
6 instead of 10. You can play 5\9 games and be sent to juniors, if you play the 6\10 game they cant send you to juniors no more.

Oh i see... still though.. imagine a big shake up that close to the playoffs. The deadline will either be very eventful or a snoozefest like its been the past couple of years.

Yeah there option three. But that's not exactly cutting him free because they are still paying him and he would still be on the cap.

But that's a good point about an injury (Like Savard and Pronger) he can't be bought out then.

tough choice for the Rangers. They are okay with the cap this season but need to get him off the books for next year or they'll have problems. If they buy him out this season, he still has a $4 million + cap hit next season. Compliance buyout is their best option, but as TSN says, do you sit him out the year?

They'll lose a year on their entry level contract.

I tried to explain it the best i could, paying him for not playing and to stay away from the team.

In my defense he did say the cap hit would only be 600k up till june.

After reading the OP the first thing I thought of is how much it would suck to be the programmer for cap geek this week! Maybe we should all chip in to buy him a case or three of Red Bull and 12 bags of Funyuns.
