Then shop Kaberle to some team that wants him in 10 weeks.
Exactly...no point in giving him away for a 7th right now as some have suggested. Worst case you buy him out with no cap hit in the summer and have his and Gomez's cap room...7.35+ 4.25=11.60 mil
Not really. A terrible offer like that happens quite frequently in here. People think it's fair because any player we have is awesome.
I was thinking it is a fair deal because Grabner always seemed like a toss in in trade proposals. Didnt realize how old Kabs was though. Plus Grabner was picked up on waivers and had an offseason last year.
Benn has as much potential as Subban and has proved a lot more.
I don't see it. Subban is already playing 23-24 minutes a game in all sitaution and can still go to another level. Stud d-men have a lot of value...Dallas traded Neal for Goli friken goski! Subban is miles ahead of Goligoski and Neal and Benn are close.

You think awfully high, of the opinions of message board gms.
Grabner was a 14th overall pick, who had an awful training camp. So Tallon tried sneaking him through waivers. The isles had just lost Okposo to shoulder surger and were glad to take the cheap gamble on Grabner.
34 goals his rookie season, followed by a sophmore slump in 2011-2012:20 goals, $1m salary.
He's due to make $2m this season. Snow is saying in interviews, that he's sticking with his youth movement. Trading 25 yr old Grabner on a very team friendly contract, for 34 yr old Kaberle makes no sense.
It's the eqivalent of the Habs trading Plekanec for Reasoner, who's on his last legs as a pro.

Let's forget this sentence. I get what you are trying to say but Grabner is nowhere near Plekanec in terms of value.
I wouldn't personally, but I do feel Yaks to MTL would make sense w/ Galy in our ranks.
Speculate away HFers
I like Yakupov it has nothing to do with him but at the end of the day then we are screwed looking to replace a guy like Subban who will eat 25-30 minutes a game for years

Grabner doesn't have Plekanec's value or track record...and Kaberle at his best was 3x the player Reasoner is. I'm not convinced he is on his last legs, if he is in shape and focused he has 2-3 good years left(#3-4 guy) and possibly 2-3 more as more of a PP specialist(#5-6).

If the right deal would be there I would trade Subban. I know Yaks has a lot of value but he strikes me as the type of player that would be an absolute mess in Montreal. He would take away from Galchenyuk's growth as a player off the ice.

Yea that makes sense, I might have undervalued him and wrote him off as a one hit wonder like Cheechoo was a few years ago.

Really? Then I suppose you wouldn't trade Subban for Stamkos, who's on the ice for fewer minutes than PK. Wouldn't it be harder to find a reasonably good replacement for an elite scorer than for a not quite so elite Dman?

Maybe because Yak is a prospect with 0 NHL games, not an elite goal scorer and multiple Rocket winner like Stamkos. Stamkos is a top 3 player in the league, so using him to prove a point about Yakupov makes no sense. Also he is a center and centers have more value than wingers.
PK is a proven number one Dman and he fills a glaring need, give me one good reason to trade him for Yakupov without using the word "potential".

Your really going to compare Stamkos to Yakupov? Holly cow
Replacing Subban with a player that can score 50-60 goals per year is one thing, replacing PK with a guy that we have absolutely no clue how he is going to end up performing in this league is another and if he struggles we would be in need of both offence and defence. At least now we have the defence that's my point
Never choose a 1st line winger over a 1st pairing dman.
Subban > Benn
I might consider Subban for Benn, a 1st, and a 2nd.
Never trade a superb and tough as nails puck moving cup winning dman at age 28 who loves playing for the Habs for a small injury prone center just past his prime either, and have the opposing GM laugh at our GM the very next day, saying: "Never, ever trade a top D for a forward!" Such short memories here.

You know what would be crazy? I wouldn't necessarily pull the trigger but it could solve a lot of problems for teams.
Yakupov for Subban
Plekanec for Gardiner+
Edmonton gets their defense shored up.
Toronto gets their #1 center.
Montreal fills the loss of Subban and gets a dynamic winger.
Like I said, it would never happen but certainly interesting.
Or, if Kabanov is rated too highly, for Persson or Ullstrom?
I like the trade and it would make room on the Habs defence for AHL defencemen and would add offence to a Hamilton team in desperate need of scoring help. Also it would reunite Kirill with his former teammates from Shawinigan Cataractes Micheal Bournival and Morgan Ellis.
Detroit probably would want Subban, nothing less...or Markov.
maybe they do. If so, than I am sure they have the pieces they could dangle for Markov and maybe even a fair one for Subban (not that I think Subban would be dealt)

Talking to Leaf fans one thing they have pointed out is Desharnais is more the type of player they would want/need rather then Plekanec. I also doubt they would give up Gardiner for either centre. Kulemin and Finn would be what I want for Desharnais.
I doubt the Leafs would even accept Kulemin for Desharnais straight up, let alone with Leafs adding. Kulemin has the potential to be a much more complete player than Desharnais if he recovers from his off-year, IMO.

With their center and win situation...plus the fact that Kulemin had a pretty crappy year, they would do it in a heartbeat...makes no sense for the Habs unless we are getting their 1st, JVR or Gardiner in the deal.
