What can you tell me about his defensive side of the puck?
As a Rangers fan, I'm not trading Del Zotto for Schultz.

2 Great years in the NHL > 0.5 great year in the AHL, and they're the same age. Sure, you could argue Schultz has the higher upside, but Del Zotto has already proven he can contribute to an upper echelon NHL team.

Uh, no. He was sent down in his second year. Last year he played in 77 games and had 41 points with consistently improving his defensive play.

MDZ is the first Rangers dman to score 40pts since Rozsival which was like 10 years ago or something. He is thier best puck moving dman, and pp specialist. He is a kid. He is affordable. Why would they move him?

Not to mention...He loves it here. Despite not having a contract, he's been at the practice facility everyday skating with the 12-14 players that have showed up.

In addition his agent has said that talks with the Rangers are underway for a new contract.

I think this one can be debunked.

MDZ spent NO TIME IN THE MINORS IN 2011-12

And he only played 11 games in the minors in 2010-11

the prevailing thought that he was demoted for an extended stay to the AHL is very very wrong.

Did he have his issues, absolutely, but his 2011-12 season demonstrated that he addressed his defensive short-commings.

I would trade Yak for a package but MDZ is not the type of dman I would want in that package.

Yak is on an entry level contract so the cap hit is not that high.
What would the NYR offer up for Yak then, as I stated EDM needs are a big dman that is at least a legit top 3 that can play both sides of the ice, winger with size and a 2C with size?

I saw the rumore and thought something was off.

Not sure they need MDZ.

doesn't make sense.

Less so when you consider at the end they talk about the Rangers getting entry level money player back.

Who could that be?

The "+" would likely have to be Kreider.

I think NYR are pretty set. Richards, Gaborik, Nash, Callahan and to a lesser extent Kreider/Stepan to lead the way up front.

Girardi, McDonagh, MDZ, and Staal to lead the way on the blueline.

And Lundqvist to be Lundqvist. It's a very well balanced team. The top 6 has three stars, even if it doesn't have any superstars. MDZ fills a pretty important role as PP Quarterback as well.

Maybe Ryan Jones?

but that's not anywhere near MDZ territory

I'd love to somehow get MDZ

I'd be willing to give up one of the big 4/5 if something else was added, although I can't see NYR doing that since they are in win-now mode.

MDZ for Edmonton's 2013 1st rounder makes sense. NYR may find itself in some cap trouble so it would be very good for them to have a top player coming in on the cheap then they can move someone more expensive.

Why's everyone hating on my statement, I messed up the year's, but I was just trying to address the op's statement about the consistency issues.

It really doesn't make sense for the Rangers. They're trying to win the Cup this year, how does losing a top-4 dman for a pick help with that?

YEA Eklund rumors again

I said this on the Rangers board MDZ will resign with the Rangers but to entertain this the Rangers have to get an offensive Dman back cause MDZ is there offensive Dman....so Ryan Whitney for sure but he is injury prone too.

After that I would want Gagner in the package as well

I would see EDM have more interest in Alzner or Carlson, young legit 2-Way DMan than another PMD...

To get them out of WAS though, entirely a different story

and the rumour is from Eklund

or.. Instead of giving up Gagner Tambellini can pick up Redden.

Gagner is not part of EDMs big picture but trading him away now would leave a hole on our roster.
