I already got asked about Kovy during work today, Twitter and satellite/Internet radio makes the world a smaller place.

Every Russian sourced tweet/quote/post reminds me of that owl in the woods in My Cousin Vinny.

"Wat da ___ was dat!?"

If Kovy stays in Russia, when he comes back in the fall he is certainly NOT getting my vote for captain.

Loosely translated via google. So if someone with better knowledge of Russian could clean this up, thank you much.

- How is the situation with your contract? Alexei Kasatonov promised for you to fight to the bitter end ...
- No news yet I can not tell. Today I will meet with the SKA to Star Game, I think that everything will be solved.

- Do you like to play with?
- The desire to play in the KHL is. League in Russia is very good. The more very soon begin the playoffs, the fun that can be. I want to stay this year in St. Petersburg, but I have a contractual obligation to the NHL, which will be very hard to stop, because I have a large and long contract. So far not even imagine how it will look.

These are direct questions with political answers. There's nothing damning here, people.
He never said anything about staying until the fall. Slava is saying he's implying it.... but until there's a better translation, I'm going to call ********.

I know there are some here that keep thinking everything is cool and we have nothing to worry about.... but I'm worried.
This team is in a lot of trouble without Kovalchuk.

Everyone can say they're sure Kovy is coming back and this is HF overreaction but even assuming Kovy does come back, is it going to be because he wants to or has to? At this point it's fair to question that.

Been my thought all along.. The media and KHL appear to have some agenda, whether it be to get NHL players in the Olympics, promote the KHL more, or just piss off the NHL for taking back their star players in the blink of an eye

Kovy appreciates the respect his fans/countryman have given him this season as he has led a dominant team

How would it look to Russians if Kovy ran back to the NHL? People over there seem pissed at how quickly some of the other Russian stars ran back

If you really read through Kovalchuk's quotes he acknowledges he's obligated to return to Devils and doesn't express any intention not to.

If he plays to the level we know he can, should we care? Any foreign player in the world would rather stay in their homeland and make the same money.. Wouldn't you?

No it's not.
Kovy can prove whether he wants to be here or not as soon as he's back in the locker room.

It's not up to us to judge how badly he wants to be here with having no proven reason otherwise to believe so.

What do you expect him to say to the Russian media? He had a terrible time and can't wait to ship the hell out? He is giving them the same lip service we got from Zach about how nice it would be to stay and he likes it there, but in the end he has no intention of staying.

See if Lou allowed twitter accounts this whole saga would of been over a week ago. He would of tweeted something about being back in NJ Monday and that would be that.

If he refused to play in the ASG he would rip KHL fans' hearts out.

Like I said before, he has respect for he players and the fans in Russia. I would feel bad if I was the captain of my team leading them to the playoffs and then just bailed on the team and the fans so quick. Him wanting to stay in SKA for the rest of the year does not mean he doesnt want to play for the Devils.

As for "I have to go back because I have a contract with New Jersey"....what do you want him to say? " Sorry, Russian fans/teammates, but I would rather play in New jersey than for CKA" No. Its an excuse. It would be like one of us telling somebody "Sorry I can't go to the Rangers game, I already bought tickets to the Devils game."

I think Kovy wants to help the KHL/Their fans

THese fans paid thousands to see Kovy/Malkin/Ovie/Datsyuk

In a blink of an eye, half of them are gone. He wants to help the KHL out and not break the fans hearts
