But that's just it - Pleks will play against the other teams top lines. He's your top defensive forward, or for that matter your most complete forward. No way that changes with Therrien.

Well personally I'm hoping the team finds a little more balance like it had the year before - throwing Plekanec out to the wolves underutilized his offensive ability, and as good as the DD line was it wasn't good enough to carry the team.

Having a functional 4th line will hopefully help give Plekanec some breathing room.

Well the other option is Eller - don't think, in my opinion, we have a fourth line capable of handling top lines in the NHL.

Beaulieu prevented him and Murphy from playing as he wanted them to rest. Hopefully he plays Friday @ KIT before coming to camp.

WOW, I love all the competant NHL GM's on this board. #94 plays 5 games. If hes competant he stays, if not he goes to Sarnia.

I have no doubts that he'll play his 6 games in a top-9 role and those games will determine if he stays or not. They will want to see him in game situation and they don't the luxury of a pre-season to do so.

If Galchenyuk is staying there, (im not a fan of that idea), i think the best thing to do is to pair him with Desharnais.

We already have to cover Desharnais' line as it is, with a quite weak roster wingers-wise.
If we also have to protect Galchenyuk with his assignments, we might as well play them together. Plekanec and Eller can then also have competent wingers alongside them, and you can ice 3 competitive lines, instead of a strong one and the two other struggling.

Anyway, i dont think that the situation is really great for a rookie, at least when it comes to the judgment of his abilities, because of the lack of pre-season and the lockout, the first games are going to be special and not really representative, and 5 games is not enough to really find how ready he is.

It's 5 games, if he plays 6 it's cause he is staying all season

Well TSN has Galchenyuk projected tied with Desharnais in points.

Gally 11g 15a 26pts.
Desh 7g 19a 26pts.

That would be interesting to say the least.

If those projections come true and that's all the production we get from DD, we are looking at another top pick IMO

Connor Murphy needs season ending surgery.

Ouch. That hurts the sting.

I think there's a better chance DD goes PPG.

I was about to get angry with the low projections until I remembered its only a 48 game season.

Friday?

He is invited to habs camp, he won't go back to junior until that's dealt with.

With his predictions for Cole and Pacioretty, that would only be 38 goals from that line which would be pretty damn disappointing.

Damn, that's terrible. Fifth straight season that Murphy hasn't been able to play the entirety of due to injury.

Huge loss for the Sting, he's rather easily their best defenceman.

In a regular season that would be 31 goals for Pacioretty, 27 for Cole and 12-13 for Desharnais.

Considering Cole's history of production and that I'd be happy with Desharnais getting around 15 goals, I think that's a far more realistic projection than thinking the three of them are going to be PPG players.

Not necessarily, it depends on Plekanec and Eller's production as well.

I expect more from DD however, something like 30 to 35pts.

For those curious I went in and ranked their projected totals by goals and points (currently they are ranked in projected fantasy value). In terms of ranking by position on goals and points they are:

C:
T10/18 (Plekanec)
T66/48 (Desharnais)
T53/60 (Eller)

LW:
T13/21 (Pacioretty)
T40/41 (Galchenyuk)
T25/48 (Bourque)

RW:
T12/34 (Cole)
T31/63 (Gionta)

D:
T7/22 (Subban)
T55/62 (Markov)

Goals are listed by the rank by position they are tied with. Points by absolute position with goals as a tie breaker in the format goals/points.

So if you put any stock into what they are saying (I don't really), they are projecting MTL to have mid-league top end goal scoring with pretty good middle six production depth but that not to translate into assists and low production from defenseman.
