Thought this when I saw their names mentioned. Just not sure what we would give up?

Maybe not back to EDM. That's where he played his worst, IMO.

Y'don't say...

If the Staals play together, Carolina needs a 2nd line centre, no ? So, you should probably start there for McBain, or Pitkanen.

Personally, I'd love to have Harrison. However, what we have available isn't enough and what the canes would want is too much.

Wow, three pages already based on the absolute barest of details, guess you guys are just as excited about the return of the NHL as I am!

This is a pretty minor rumor, really, but I posted it as I'm trying to post any and all credible rumors/speculation I come across.

I don't think we'd want Blum, nothing against him, but we have more than a few defensemen in the organization who play a similar style. Tlusty is probably going to be with Eric and Semin on the first line, so I doubt he'd be traded at this point.

Pitkanen + Drayson Bowman/Zach Boychuk for Wilson I think would be fair value.

Det would prefer tough, physical D but it's not bad value vise.. For Detroit; Flip is UFA after this season. But I think he could re-sign with Carolina, good upcoming team again with Fins in the mix.

But the report was to make room for the 5 or so players from Charlotte coming up to play, no?

EDM will take McBain, how about Horc over 50% on the faceoff and prospect.

I never realized that you guys had that much cap space. What about a deal around Hemsky. He would look good on the 2nd line with Semin.

Not entirely sure about that one. I honestly think the Canes would take a song from whoever takes Stewart off their hands at this point. The Canes actually have a glut of AHLers who are ready to play, just a shortage at the position they need most (#3C).

There's room for 5 without really trading anyone.

1) Faulk gives the canes 6 D
2) Sanguinetti or Gragnani (who's injured right now) or another would be the #7 D
3) Bowman is pretty certain for the 3rd line (where he finished last year)
4) Peters or Ellis should back-up Ward (depends on Boucher's injury status)
5) A forward (Dalpe, Boychuk, Welsh) will fill in for an injured Ruutu.
6) A guy like Tim Wallace or Brett Sutter could be the 13th forward.

Trading Pitkanen or McBain really doesn't really open up another slot for a guy from Charlotte, because they really don't have any more D from Charlotte ready to come up. If they are making more space, it would be for a forward IMO (Dalpe, Welsh, Boychuk, Sutter). The problem is, any forwards the Canes might be willing to part with, no other teams really want (Stewart, Nodl) or have limited value (Dwyer).

Teams with excess are going to trade their crap and hoard their gems. Why on Earth would they deal Pitkanen?

Especially when you look at what the defense looks like without him.

I find it amazing how the op posts something ridiculous and everyone runs with it for 3 pages.

If the canes are going to make a trade, they will NOT be moving their best defenseman or likely McBain either. Seriously, everybody go look at their defense and tell me they can afford to trade Pitkanen or McBain. We don't really have much in the way of prospects either, certainly no one who can replace either of those two right now. What the canes will likely do is make some room at forward by cutting loose someone like Anthony Stewart or Andreas Nodl who are really just warm bodies taking a spot from a more promising prospect. Only other thing I could see is moving Boucher or putting him on the IR if he's still not healthy and signing Dan Ellis.

They are NOT going to trade Pitkanen, though.

I don't think the Hurricanes will be trading a defenseman. If anything, they'll be trading for one.

I think they will pick up a replacement for Ruutu. And i don't believe they will give that much for that reason.
