There was a lot of talk about the Flyers having strong interest in Bobby Ryan last season. Sure Philly needs an impact defenseman, but I'm sure Holmgren wouldn't turn his nose up at a potential 40 goal scorer if he makes the team better.

Couturier does not yet have the offence to be what we need, we need a true #1 C, and if Couturier never makes it there than we never fill the need. Not to mention are need for the C is for Kessel mostly.

Couterier could become Eric Staal,, or Martin Hanzel. Too soon to tell. Philly adds

Yeah, it makes much more sense that he adds the closest thing we have to a blue chip prospect to get two rental tweeners and a backup.

Maybe I'm wrong, I'm assuming Kassian is a permanent 3rd or 4th line grinder, but that's just from what I've read as I haven't watched much of him at all.

Kassian's absolute floor, if he does not improve whatsoever despite only being 21, would be a third line grinder.

Power forwards take longer to develop, and it is perfectly reasonable he becomes a solid 2nd liner with a mean streak.

I would do something involving Gardiner for Couts....maybe Philly adds a tad more...Both teams needs benefit big time. As a leaf fan we have enough young D talent to do this...

I'll consider Simmonds + Couturier/Schenn only if he doesn't re-sign.

This is a basis for a deal only if Philly is interested in a PMD. I don't think they have a legit one at the moment.

Gardiner should be a great fit for them. We need someone like Couts to play along with Kessel.

Why?
Not happening......

Leafs would need more to come back to them to make this trade.

Remember Kessel was acquired for a couple of #1s...high #1s...The PR fallout in this trade would be big.

Had the #1 been a top 5 pick then maybe they do it...but this pick would be in the 20s...not worth all that much.

For comparasion purposes....The Sabres traded Gaustead and a #4 for a #1 in the low 20s.

The other factor here is with new owners/GM you will likely see a Luongo trade ....

that is a not a trade done if the team is looking to rebuild.....which is effectivly what the Kessel trade will do.

you want me to trade an extremely promising 19 year old 2-way center and a 1st round pick for this?

no thanks.

but seriously, i wouldn't do Couturier for Kessel straight up, let alone add a 1st or voracek. if couturier is being moved at al, which is extremely unlikely in itself, it would be for a young defenseman with an equally high ceiling.

Suppose Philly gets Luongo.

Bryz has pretty much negative trade value given his contract.

Kessel + 2nd + Colborne/Ashton/Finn for Couturier + Voracek + Bryz

only way you even get homer to listen is if it's Voracek + Couturier for Kessel + Gardiner, otherwise we have no need to make a trade like this at all.

Yeah, I definitely wouldn't do that. But it's a matter of opinions, I guess.

I LOVE Voracek and Couturier.

I'd think about Kessel + Kadri probably, but I assume you wouldn't.

we have no need for kadri. we need defense. we scored the 2nd most goals in the league last year, so while i understand why you wouldn't do kessel + gardinder, the addition of gardiner is what it would take to get homer to consider moving either of Couts or Voracek, because how does it help our team otherwise? it does not. there's no point in moving 2 important pieces of your roster when you aren't even filling a need with the return.
