How are the players getting onto the team rinks in their nhl practice gear with the lockout still on? Are they renting the rinks from the team and buying the jerseys at the team shop or is the league looking the other way to allow "early" training camp due to the short length of the training camp proper this year?
Since Monday the Predators have been back at Centennial Sportsplex, wearing their Predators gear, getting support from the equipment and training staffs, and even under the watchful eye of all the coaches - who do not go into the locker room or on the ice.
Shawn Allard, the Predators skills coach, has been running practices for most of the summer and got back out there today. He is being brought in by the players as an independent contractor through his Perfect Skating Hockey School in Ottawa, but will be a Preds employee once again when camp opens.
Tootoo brought Allard to Rankin Inlet to help with his hockey school and Craig Smith has had him running practices for him sporadically in Madision, WI since returning from Europe. Really high quality instruction!
Yes, but the lockout isn't legally over until the players ratify.
I believe nobody has any doubt on the final result of that vote. Neither side will raise this as an issue since it in everybody interest that players get in game shape ASAP. Let put it this way it not an infraction as long as nobody make it one. Also you don't see coach directing these unnoficial training session and GM can't sign or trade anybody yet either. So there a line and everybody pretty much know where it is.
Several Blues players have been practicing together wearing blues practice jerseys for quite a while. They even have a 'coach' its not really a coach just some one who led the practices. Once the lockout ended they moved to the Blues practice rink.
Does anyone really believes that the NHL and/or the players would do such a suicidal move as to screw up again while everyone everywhere hopes the season will start in 8 days ?
Two things are sure : the lockout is over or the NHL as a league is over.
The lockout has been lifted by the league. There is no agreement on a CBA until the union ratifies it. The inability to train and practice at team facilities was league imposed and has been lifted.

Has it? I was under the impression the lockout was still on (meaning no players were allowed into training areas) until the CBA is voted on.

Seems like the league is letting things like that slide because it'll benefit everyone...basically gets training camp started before it can officially be started

The ban was imposed by the NHL and they have lifted the ban, doesn't have anything to do with the CBA. If the players reject the CBA (0.00001% chance), then the ban will be back.
The league also banned the team officials from interacting with the players, but that has been lifted too. That is why the Kings were able to have players at their press conference last night.
In Anaheim the players have been renting the practice facility themselves (Anaheim Ice, same one the Ducks own and use) during the lockout. I don't know what they wore.
edit: I meant to say they have been renting the ice all during the lockout, not just this week.

If that is the case, why does NHL and NHLPA are crying out loud thru their favorite media outlets how KHL is working to keep players in Russia ? If the lockout is not done yet, let the player play till it officially is.
