God, I still can't believe one injury basically changed his whole career for the worst. The guy was projected to become a very solid and reliable #2 sutdown defenseman with some offensive upside iirc. He developed greatly at NCAA level and then this torn ACL or whatever it was virtually threw him back to square one. Such a shame.

It's too bad that the guy who started this thread doesn't have enough board privileges to edit Kunitz out of the thread title

Congrats to O'Donnell on a great career

Working on year to year for Lupul. Sounds like he will get more up front, but the average is $5.25 over 5 yrs. #TSN
5 years, 2 years too long IMO, he's going to get injured and he's only had one season that is worth that much money.

To be fair to Lupul, he's been a pretty healthy player apart from his back.

IIRC his shoulder injury last year was from a hit into the boards a la Murray on Lubo a couple of years ago?

I'd be more worried about the money on offer if he returns to 40-50 points a season

Yeah, other than the infected back Lupul has been relatively healthy over the course of his career.

$5.25M is an ok deal for Toronto, he would have got more on the open market.

More money up front? I thought that's what they were saying players are getting away from because of possible escrow problems? Did his agent not get the memo? Or are they just ignoring that and going by the standard $1 today > $1 tomorrow?

Hey, whatever happened with Kunitz's contract extension? I was just coming to read about it.

Lupul is out for 6-8 weeks from a slapshot from Dion. Its a freak accident, but that doesn't mean he isn't injury prone...

Yeah, good for Andy for stepping away now that he is a UFA. Nothing left to prove. He is in his mid 30s with a cup ring. Best luck to him as he deals with the post concussion syndrome.

Good for Andy. He needed to think about his health.

A little sad to see Andy Mac retire, but good for him to quit while he still has all his facilities.

Head injuries are devastating.

Good to see McDonald going out on his own terms before he potentially ended up with another concussion.

It's a shame because he still had a few years left in him. But health comes first.

Mac had a great career despite his size, Great vision and a fantastic skater. Sad to see him retire, but you can't mess around with head injuries.
