Its no secret that the Stars need some help on the back end. Esp a PMD or a #1-2 D
I think Goligoski would really benefit from having another PMD, like he did when he was in Pittsburgh (Letang, Gonchar)
Expendables:
Robidas
Fistric
Bachman
Wandell
If they are out of the playoffs:
Jagr
Morrow
Ryder
Daley
Nystrom
So what would your team give for any of these players?
Dallas could fetch some defensive prospects at least with those players, nothing too high ceiling though. And definetly not top pairing D from anywhere, probably not even Bouwmeester if someone considers him a top pairing D. Well value-wise yeah Jbo but I'd think Calgary would be looking to get youth/picks.
Of roster players I'd think Demers could be expendable from San Jose at the deadline if their D is good enough to sacrifice it a little for cup run. Maybe Jagr/Morrow+Robidas+7th for Demers+2nd+4rd at the deadline or something..can't think of a better trade right now. And I realize Morrow have more trade value than Jagr but that is only a quick look at that trade scenario. Demers+1st if it's Morrow.
Liles from Toronto is something to look at too.

Here is your leafs shopping cart:
Komisarik (please just take him)
Maybe Liles? (pending on emergence of gardiner/rielly)
Jesse Blacker
Stuart Percy (may the flaming, commence.)
We are pretty stocked with defensive prospects and could use some room to make way for some young guns (when ready) I see the Leafs as a strong candidate for any Dallas trades.
You don't get a top pairing defenseman, especially a puck-mover, for pieces like that. The most appealing pieces to nearly any team would probably be Morrow, Ryder, and Daley, and at least Morrow and Ryder are going to be a lot more appealing to a team that is making the playoffs, meaning you'll get prospects and picks, not immediate help. And for all of the defensemen you listed, it's very rare that a roster PMD is moved for a more stay-at-home, roster defenseman.
If Cole doesn't secure a spot in St. Louis, I bet they'd be very interested in Daley; unfortunately, it couldn't be for a roster d-man.
Overall, you'll have to be willing to give to get and also probably open up your search to near-NHL prospects from teams who are securely in the playoffs.
At this point, we'd be better off trying to use what we've got and wait for our defense prospects to develop or to keep our fingers crossed for free agency defense. Acquiring a good defenseman is most likely going to be impossible with the pieces being offered.
Could all be made available, probably in roughly that order valuewise. Leopold is a PMD that can slot in at any spot in your d, and eat a ton of minutes. Could probably be had for a relatively inexpensive return.
Brenden Morrow would be a good fit on Plekanecs wing with Gionta on the other wing. The Stars want a puck-moving d-man? I'd trade either Kaberle, Diaz or Weber for him. I'd even throw in a 3rd rounder if you chose Kaberle.
Would you be interested in either of the Jets' young pmd's, Paul Postma or Zach Redmond? They're both looking to crack the lineup this year, Postma is essentially a lock, while the Jets will likely utilize the fact Redmond isn't waiver eligible so they can send him back to the rock to develop for one more year.
Postma is better offensively, while Redmond is better defensively. I'd think Postma is the more valuable of the two, but also the most readily available. He's a PP specialist and currently the Jets are already stocked with right-handed defensemen who can man the point on the PP with Byfuglien and Bogosian, while Trouba is also playing in Michigan.
What pieces are the Stars willing to move for a player like Postma?
Montreal has 8 NHL dmen. some could be had cheap. As an example there are 3 PMDs at different points in their devellopment.
Yannik Weber (likely a 3rd),
Diaz (more intreaging, maybe a 2nd),
Kaberle, we give you a 7th and send Bergevin down to mow your lawn.....jk....kinda.
Basically Diaz and Weber are inexpensive (capwise) and could be had for mid rd pick/s allowing Big D to add to their roster without taking away from it.
Caps need a scoring winger.
Orlov for Ryder+.
Deal?
I read in the ESPN preview for the Capitals that Orlov has concussion issues. If he were healthy, I'd do a Ryder+ (the + being a 3rd rounder or below) for him, but that deal happens only if we're not in a playoff position at the deadline.
At this point, and it's already been mentioned in this thread, making a trade would be wasteful. This team needs to continue to have patience and allow Dillon, Oleksiak, and Nemeth to go pro over the next year before they make any drastic moves.
If you get a can't miss offer for a player with an expiring contract sure you pull the trigger. That's highly doubtful to occur. Most of these UFAs are going to get you picks. Jagr is the only one IMO that has the star power (assuming he has a good offensive year) to land a potential close to NHL ready prospect (and that's a long shot).

I'm curious where they got the news of the injury being a concussion. Everyone else is mum about the injury, with no description beyond "upper body injury." Obviously a concussion is a possibility, but we don't know for sure.
San Jose seems willing to move Boyle, though I don't think any of those pieces seem of interest to Dallas.
Anyone from the Islanders pool for Robidas or Daley intrigue you? Calvin De Haan?
If it were up to me, I'd trade Robidas for De Haan. However, the chances that Robi waives his NTC is slim, but he would be ideal for the Islanders. His cap hit is 3.3 mil., but the his pay for the final year of his contract is 2.5 mil.
Are the Islanders interested in dealing Josh Bailey?

With Bailey it's weird; he should be moved but the Islanders want to give him a fair chance to pan out (rushed early, playing out of position, thrown back to the minors, finally settling in as a LW).
I'd be open to moving him if the right deal came along but a part of me things we've groomed him for so long that he finally might make the jump to the next level.
