MPS for Volchenkov?

Volchekov for Peckham & Paajarvi?

NJ gets a good young forward on a ELC, while shedding salary. Edmonton gets a top 4 D with some grit.

The question is would the devils do it. I like the fact Volchenkov has four years left on his contract (usually we got offered a 45 year old soon to be a UFA for MPS)

I think the devils would come back and ask for Klefbom and MPS and for me that would be a no. Peckham is a fringe player that all teams have. IF the oilers added NICK Schultz the devils would need to add something

No way I could agree to parting ways with Klefbom or Musil... but I'd be OK with switching Peckham with Marincin or Gernat.

Klefbom has too much upside and Musll is possibly our next Ladislav Smid.

Sidenote: I can't believe I'm toying with the idea of giving up Magnus in any proposal.

I agree--he is the one guy I think everyone is under valueing--that being said the oilers need another NHL ready D-man to buy time so we do not rush any of the kids on the blue line. If Hartikenen steps it up and continues to develop faster then MPS--it is conceivable he could be the number 2 lw of the future. MPS has too much skill for the third line.

With Sutton gone and Whitney an unknown factor--oilers may need to look at the options. The rebuild is over and it time for advance development to start Volchenkov is the perfect age for a deal like this.

There is a number of reasons this trade doesn't happen.

1. Volchekov has a NTC and what I hear he likes the NY area, excellent chance he'll not waive it.
2. His contract, Oilers don't want to get handcuff with a long term contract, especially with some of their prospects coming up.
3. NJ can ill afford to loss its physical toughness on the back end, if anything NJ needs to get more grittier there.
4. Where does Volchekov play, its debatable who is better between him and N.Schultz and he's not a PMD. He could end up playing 3rd pairing and at 4.25M that's a little rich to have a D playing there.

Oilers pass, besides MPS is not for sale, has looked good with the Barons and has developed a physical game, just what the Oilers need.

Pretty sure we could get more for Volch as well.

Peckham is not necessary and Paajarvi, while nice, isn't what we need

It's OK. You can be honest about Peckham. Last year he showed us that he's not worth league minimum and this year he's making a million bucks.

Nothing Mtl would be willing to trade and ex-Mtl players have never done well in Edmonton and do more harm then good.

I'd do it.

We need to get rid of some d because we have a lot of young guys almost ready for roster spots and we're very shallow on young offensive players.

But as was pointed out volch has a ntc so it's unlikely. How do you feel about tallinder and/or Urbom?

To much of a risk with Tallinder, he may have recover from the blood clots, but there is always the risk of another and he has a history of back problems. Too pricey to play 3rd pairing behind N.Schultz, J.Schultz, Petry, and Smid.

Urbom is another prospect that is almost ready, hasn't looked the best in the AHL, the Oilers don't need anymore prospect LHS D.

Everyone agrees the Oil need an upgrade on D but in order to bring that guy in we need to give something up. The truth is we have strength on the wings, so it'll likely be a winger.

And Volchenkov wouldn't play bottom pair minutes. I would see the pairings

Smid-Petry
Whitney-Volchenkov
Schultz- Schutlz
Peckham-Potter

---> Playoffs

If Volch would waive, there's definitely grounds for a trade here.

Although, we wouldn't need any additional D in return. We'd need another forward prospect, or a pick (whichever, of whatever value, seems to be more fair)

Edmonton would need to add something small I believe.
Good proposal though
Almost fair value filling needs in both organizations
