Moneyball move. We've always been a better team with a healthy Hecht, I think its just not obvious to everyone watching the game.
With our extreme inexperience at center, this signing makes me feel better - as long as we don't see significant stints of him between Vanek and Pomminville. Whether it works or not, we need one of the young guys, probably Hodgson, to grow into that Top Center row. Got to stick with it through good and bad.
i bet you can sign a pre-contract anytime. its just an assurance not to sign with any other team. of course they agreed to official terms but the official nhl contract will kick in as soon as the new cba is officially active.
And there goes any chance of Grigs playing more than 9 games for the sabres this season....
what? this should have very little to do with Grigorenko, he makes the team if he proves he can play up here.
Also a thing to remember is that injuries are quite common. I see nothing wrong with Grigorenko coming up and playing 12 minutes a night for 30-48 games or so with PP time, he will improve significantly just practicing and being around the pros.
Hecht can also play any forward position as well which is a good thing, if we can get 30 solid games I wouldn't be disappointed. I Grigorenko makes the team I would imagine Hecht starts at LW.
So long as he isn't relied on to be a top 9 forward when the playoffs roll around, I'm fine with this. Otherwise, I'm excited for Hecht-Hodgson-Pominville for no reason. I have no faith in Lindy to manage Jochen's minutes in a way that makes any sense whatsoever.
It's 6 games for this season instead of 10. Which makes it a 5gm tryout. If he plays a 6th game the season counts.
Doesn't change your point but thought I'd pass it along.
I like it and would love for Hecht to play with Grigs. He plays the EXACT type of game Grigs does, Slow down the game play puck possession. I think this was an insure policy if Mccormick is having(I think) concussion issues. Though not the best idea to have someone "prone" to injuries as much as Hecht to do it.
This also affords Buffalo to have a forward who knows Lindy's system and doesn't have to wait 40+ games to finally have it click. A line of Hecht-Grigorenko-Leino/Ott I think would be a very decent "checking" line. It has all the makings of a shutdown line.
I love the Hecht signing....I think it would be perfect to slot Grigorenko between Poms and Hecht. That way the kid is allowed to play his game as he'd have two thinking professionals to cover any miscues he might make.
