No need for Kunitz. We already have countless wingers.

Please reconsider my original trade offer from a few months ago:
To Colorado: Paul Martin, Tyler Kennedy and a 2013 2nd round draft pick/prospect
To Pittsburgh: Jamie McGinn and Jan Hejda
We are willing to take some of Paul Martin's cap space.
Even if you take ALL of Martin's cap space, we still say no.
Little interest in Kennedy, the 2nd doesn't help us now and Martin hasn't been good for the Pens, which is why fans are trying to dump him to every team in the league.
Hejda had a tough start in his first season with the Avs but settled in and played well in the 2nd half, no reason to trade him. McGinn was acquired at the trade deadline and put up 13 points in 17 games (8 goals). Why on earth would the Avs trade him at this point? It doesn't guarantee he'll continue on that pace but being only 24, it doesn't mean he won't either. Whatever happens, the AVS will be the team finding out if he's ready to continue to break out or not, not the Penguins. Nice try.

Not true, Paul Martin played poor last season. Not the entire time he has played at Pittsburgh.
I think Paul Martin and Erik Johnson would make a solid defensive pairing. If your fan-base doesn't want Paul Martin than maybe we could discuss a trade around one of our better prospects (who are NHL ready). But, I understand why your fan-base wouldn't want to give up Jamie McGinn (since you traded for him last season and he has looked promising) but if you're interested in a top-pairing defenseman to play with Erik Johnson, then Colorado is going to have to give up on of your better wingers in order to do so.

What if we wait until the summer and sign a guy to play with EJ as a UFA...can we do that? Can we develop some of our players and see what happens? Or do we still have to give up one of our better wingers regardless?? Are we missing a window to contend for the cup that I'm not aware of?
It's all good. We'll make moves to acquire players we need when the time is right and when it makes sense for our team just as we've been doing for the past 2-3 years. I doubt very seriously that Sherman, Sakic and Co. are 'on board' with making bad trades that open up one hole just to close another.

Well, are you looking to make the playoffs this year? The team has depth with forwards and the fan-base had mentioned that they're looking for a top-pairing defenseman to play with EJ this season.

Sure making the playoffs is a goal and a top-pairing guy to play with EJ is indeed our biggest need. But that doesn't mean that we are going to make bad trades in an attempt to get that done. I personally don't believe that Martin is a top pairing guy. We are still a very young team with an extremely young core...time is on our side, patience is key to acquiring pieces to complement our core.

Exactly...
And... Big difference between Paul Martin and Kieth Yandle, which is the level of top pairing defender we would be looking for. It's kind of... go big or go home. We have some 'good' or 'ok' top 4 D but we need a clear cut top pairing defender.
Simply put, unless he came super cheap. Paul Martin is not enough of an upgrade to trade young players like McGinn for.
Besides... all these people talking like we have this "CRAZY" winger depth are clueless. We have good winger depth if your talking about quality vs how many guys we have (IE top 6 or top 6 potential wingers.)
Landeskog, Parenteau, McGinn, Downie, and Jones are all top 6 wingers (granted at different levels), but Jones is kind of all out or bust... When hes not on hes a 2nd/3rd line tweener 'offensively' anyways.
Downie & McGinn have their question marks as well. How much potential do they really have when played consistently with a top 6 center? They need to have continued success... (Downie has obviously proven more between his playoff performance and time with Stamkos)
Ok so that's 5 of the 6 clear cut top 6 wingers we need that will fit into our future as a team. Hejduk makes our 6th, and we all know the questions surrounding that. At the very least we know we cannot rely on him for the future.
So all in all we are actually short a top 6 winger, BECAUSE... we have 3 top 6 level centers that we are trying to setup for success. IF IF IF!! The structure of the team changes and we trade one of our center for a top pairing defender, and expect less offense from our third line ; then and only then could we afford to trade a winger.
Long story short, for what we are trying to build, we are missing at least one more young winger to complete our top 9. WE ARE NOT TRADING ONE AWAY, and do not have 'wingers to spare'. Thanks..
Defense, center depth(depending on the trade), and futures/goalie prospects are the areas we can trade from. Colorado really does not have quality 'DEPTH' to trade from unless swapping top players like a top 6 center for a top pairing defender. At least that we can afford to part with without setting us back in the same breath.
Edit: oh and the main reason we have to play the whole 'score by comity' game and role three lines is because at this point one of our centers hasn't taken the lead offensively, and made his line the No. 1 line on our team. Duchene has that chance, and Stastny has a chance of resurgence... Until that happens our top 9 is going to see relatively similar ice time.

Trade a 24 yo who is just coming into his own and not even his prime, scoring 13 pts in 17 games on a real scoring line last season 0.76 ppg. For a guy nearly 10 years older, who is definitely close to the end of his prime at which time he will decline who scored 61 pts in 82 games last season 0.74 ppg. And on a line with Malkin vs Stastny?
Noooooooooooo thanks. Would rather see if McGinn can keep his awesomeness going, as far as I'm concerned, he will be as good as Chris and for a lot longer.
Makes zero sense and frankly, I wouldn't even do one for one swap much less add something to McGinn for him
It seems like according to Pens' fans, NO ONE is available. even 33 year old Kunitz. but they still are trying to get a Top 6 winger and a top 4 dman for nothing.
It's not about expecting something for nothing, it's about being *logical*. Think about it. If the Pens are seeking top six wingers, why would they deal one away? The whole point in acquiring one is because, even with Kunitz, the Pens are about 1 or 2 legitimate top six wingers short. So if you deal Kunitz to acquire a top six winger ... you're still in the exact same position.
As far as upgrading Kunitz is concerned, sure, but then it goes back to the other team. Why would Colorado trade a better winger to the Pens for Kunitz?

I think that's the point. The Pens need Kunitz, and unless they get a younger winger at the same level or soon to be at the same level, they can't trade him. But no one's making that offer, so he's sticking around.
