Kurtosis, went to Graham Elliot's joint... and can't believe I'm saying this, but he blew Alinea out of the water. Wasn't even close, he killed it.

Never been to Graham Elliot's place but my wife has been a few times and raves about it.

Totally worth the price. Such a nice guy too. He sat and talked with us for about 10-15 minutes. After that, he surprised us by having our waiter arrange our final dessert course in the kitchen. Then sat back their for another 30 or so minutes with our waiter there the entire time, just talking about the staff, industry, etc.

Speaking of which, how is MIBIII? Has anyone seen it/is it decent? I picked it up cheap from disc replay last night but haven't watched it yet. I've pretty much got a video store in my living room now since cutting cable so I'm more open to give something else a chance if it's there.

Have a copy of MIBIII in 3D, but haven't seen it yet. This would be the perfect weekend for it.

I have seen about half of it

Never was big fan of original but I would say part III is ok from what I saw ,, Part II was horrid from what I remember

So its an improvement at least and more enjoyable for fans of original

I think it depends what kind of expectations you have going into watching it. If you don't think it's going to be mindblowingly awesome, then you'll be fine. Take it for what it is and I'd imagine it will be pretty enjoyable.

Just saw Gangster Squad, I enjoyed it. Nothing amazing but a solid movie IMO. Although I do seem to like every movie I see.

Didn't even realize it was out already.... Did they end up entirely removing the movie theater scene?

It came out today. Theater by me has movies for $5 before noon.

They completely removed that scene.

One group of guys went behind a movie theater screen, and shot up the theater with machine guns. It was filmed and already released in trailers, and then the James Holmes thing happened, so they removed the scene.... Not only that, but delayed the movie by a good 3-4 months because of the Holmes incident.

Yeah, it sucks. When I saw it that part of the trailer really stuck out as an awesome scene before anything had happened.

Was it like the shots were going through your screen as if the people in the theatre were watching the same movie you were only to be revealed when the shots came through and the camera panned out that this was all part of the movie you were watching? That would be how I would have done it, but I've never heard of this movie nor have I seen the preview.

Yeah, the gangsters went on the backside of the screen so the movie patrons could not see them... and then unleashed a bunch of rounds through the screen into the people sitting in the seats, with them not having a clue it was coming. I tried finding it, but couldn't. They tried to bury it and pretend it never happened after Aurora.

Bad Timing
4. As of now, “Gangster Squad” is probably best known for the scene that’s not in the movie: A shootout that takes place in Grauman’s Chinese Theater. After James Holmes allegedly shot up a packed theater in Aurora, Colorado on July 20, 2012, “Gangster Squad” filmmakers decided to cut the key scene and replace it with a new one, which they had to reshoot at a cost of several million dollars. So instead of being released on September 7, 2012, as originally intended, the film isn’t being released until this weekend. “It's still a violent replacement. It just happens in Chinatown. It's just as violent. It just doesn't remind you of this thing that happened. It's probably going to anyway because everyone knows it's been replaced," Josh Brolin told AP.

I'm sure some of the people involved with the movie would have gladly donated a small portion of their profits to the victims in order to keep the scene in. Still, people would have freaked out and not taken it the right way, nevermind the production company not wanting any backlash. Still, I wish we lived in a world like that. Instead, the victims will get absolutely nothing from this movie and the movie isn't as good as it could have been. What a crock.

That is pretty damn interesting Ray. I am definitely intrigued now; I assume the price is not quite as astronomical either correct?

What was your favorite part about it? That is if you don't mind writing another mini-review.

Can't blame them for wanting to change that. I still remember working in a movie theater before and after 9/11 and the rush of film companies desperately moving to replace anything remotely similar in their promotional material and trailers, most notably the awesome Spider-Man trailer where he captures a helicopter in a giant web between the Twin Towers getting pulled. And, at least according to Hollywood urban legend, the ending was reworked in that film in a major way to account for it, too.

There are obvious hot topics that nobody wants to touch with a ten foot pole after it happens.

Here is a pic of the menu, if you can see it...

Wine pairing was $80, but he also offered many bottles that were as cheap as $40 for a bottle... as well as beers reasonably priced, or cocktails from $10-12 a piece.

Graham's place was much more inviting and comforting. When we were eating at Alinea, the waiters just sat in a corner watching you eat basically. It was kind of awkward. Graham's was more laid back, and jeans were acceptable. Alinea almost made you nervous not to **** up eating, if you ever can. Also, Alinea was extremely quiet and if you spoke even at a normal level all the other tables in your dining room could easily hear you. Graham had some music in the background, and the tables were so far away from each other that was never an issue. Also at Alinea when you asked to go to the bathroom, they literally escorted you. I'm perfectly fine with being told it's down the hall and to the right.

Not sure if maybe Graham's was so great because he was actually there or what, because his reviews online are filled with complaints about the food. Although I think a lot of people see him on TV and go "OMG I WANT TO EAT THERE" not really realizing exactly what kind of restaurant they're going to... and then see them later not really knowing how to properly identify courses in their review.

Couldn't pin one part of GE's as my favorite, it was all amazing. Atmosphere, service, food, and anything else you can think of. Absolutely top notch. Also liked that Graham was a little more daring with his ingredients. He used chicken hearts, foie gras, whole baby octopus, and powdered olive oil made in house. Alinea really didn't go too outside the box compared to what I was expecting. That's not to say their food wasn't top notch, I just expected a little more experimentation.

Awesome. Thanks for the review. Sounds like the atmosphere was far superior to that of Alinea's.
