This is said every year because people love to about the "good old days" and so forth. I thought this year and last were both strong years, and had a blast going to the movies.
I'm surprised at some of the movies people actually paid to see. To each their own, but not many actually appealed to me. Out of the handful I watched the worst was Battleship for sure, and I only watched it out of extreme boredom. But I can't imagine it being the worst movie of the year when Nicholas Cage was in one.
I quite enjoyed End of Watch, but the Mexicans -- Holy Christ! "Eff this", "eff that". I understand that use of language is probably prevalent within gang communities, but the way the actors delivered the curse words was just terrible.
I don't mind the ending, except for the: Earlier That Day video. What was the significance of that?
I literally have the 2K Channel feed for End of Watch open right now. That was an extremely callous, dick move bythe above poster who didn't use the spoiler tag.
Regarding the bullet-proof vest, have you ever seen someone in shock? That's exactly how they react, by babbling about anything but the traumatic event itself. It's a defense mechanism of sorts.
As for the ending, at first I had your reaction but then I realized that it's just as brutal if not moreso that Gyllenhaal now has to go through life without his best friend and with the knowledge that he played a large role in his death. IMO that ending is a lot more effective than if they had both died.
And the "no plot" comment is just ridiculous.

End of watch was a fantastic film. I can understand thinking it was mediocre, but it's not bad.
"No plot" is even stupider.
The guy has Taken 2, Resident Evil, Three Stooges (!) & Journey 2 as part of his top ten movies of the year - don't waste your time.
For real, that guy is a clown. RE:R was one of the worst movies I've ever seen in my entire life. I honestly can't fathom how someone would rate that movie positively. And it's not bad because I'm not into the series or that kind of movie, it's just a straight up awful movie. Legitimately embarrassing.
