he has the talent to be, but still hasn't reached that point yet. He's a big name, all-star capable player but he's no Superstar (perrenial all-star, Norris candidate) yet, he could, but he isn't yet. So I agree, he doesn't deserve any more than Myers, who has acheived more individually than Subban thus far

What would it take for MTL not to match an offersheet. 6.4~ avg is a 1st 2nd and 3rd more then that is 2 1sts 2nd and a 3rd.

It would have to be players/prospects and maybe draft picks coming back that would have to be something management prefers to keeping Subban. I don't see money being the issue why they don't match. Montreal is top 3 in revenue in the league so no one can really put the squeeze on them.

well obviously I understand they can afford any contract, but at what point do you think MTL considers taking the picks instead of the contract

I doubt they would take only picks. Take Philly for example, I don't think we would even take 4 1st round picks for him. With the Leafs, I doubt Montreal would take 3 1st round picks for him. It has to start with an excellent young player/prospect or two, imo.

Dont have a link or anything but close with some tsn radio guys in montreal and pk will sign for just over 5 million dollars tomorrow

mod edit:
Rod Francis ‏@InRodWeTrust990

Obviously possible contract with Subban can't be announced until players agree to CBA. But 4 years/22 million is the info that I have.

I predicted 5 yrs @ $5m+ per. I guess I was close enough if this were true.

That's big money for an RFA with the cap dropping next year.

NOOOOOO

I'd be pissed, if true

that take him right to UFA

2-3 years would have been perfect.

money isn't the issue, its the term.

up to 6.4 they match reluctantly.

over, they might consider cutting him loose, but i'm not sure there's a GM in the league who thinks spending 6.5+ and two firsts, a second, and a third on PK subban is a good idea.

Would that take him to UFA? if so, good deal for PK. 5+ mill, for 4 years, then, if he proves worthy, a chance for a big payday down the road.

Good signing if true, PK is a solid player well worth that money and probably more.

Just a heads up, TSN Radio Montreal =/= credible.

But we do have a new GM and he might not be too worried to take a player like Subban all the way to free agency. In four years PK will be so classless that no other team will want him.

Did the new CBA change the rule about when you can become a UFA? because that deal allows him to be a UFA at his first opportunity(shades of the Jordon Staal that allowed him to be a UFA at 25 which I thought was a huge mistake)

That's a lot of money for a team that is already up near the cap after this season with the cap going down. They have some decisions to make. Although Gomez and Kaberle are huge buy out candidates.

Gomez, Kaberle and Bourque, even Gionta could be dealt or have their contracts bought out in the off season. Markov is one injury away from retirement. Lots of teams will have a hard time reaching the cap floor.
