So.. he's going to retire and make 0$ instead of "biting the bullet" and play on his poor man 3M+ salary (with escrow)..
Makes sense.. sounds like a genius that guy
He already collected 2m of this year's salary before the lockout because it was part of his bonus. So yeah he seems to be upset about coming back to play 1/2 a season 'just' to collect a measly million(less taxes).
Did he ever say he's going to retire? Based on a single tweet, it sounds to me like he's just trying to better understand how much money he'll be making.
Maybe you are right; at first I read it as an indirect threat. Something like "I will look things up then I will decide if I play". Assuming you are right, he still is, as FireBergevin mentioned, complaining about "...coming back to play 1/2 a season 'just' to collect a measly million(less taxes)...".
It is a weird Tweet imo; time to move on.

Cole will be turning 35 this year, he will have played 11 seasons in the NHL and has a Stanley Cup ring. Most players keep on going until they are broken down and can no longer play well, but it wouldn't be completely ridiculous for Cole to decide to retire. We know he has had a couple of bad neck injuries in the past, who knows how much pain he plays through. Who knows how much he enjoys the lifestyle, or what his family situation is. Maybe the new CBA is just one more push in that direction.
Cole if he wants to retire should just do whatever he likes hes good but not good enough to threathen the management the habs can manage themselves without him if he wants to return to carolina them send him back there and give the spot to a young hungry wolf like galchenyuk.
