you want Benn(hypothetically speaking because he isnt moving)

Start with Rielly/Gardiner + 2013 1st + roster player

Id do Kessel for Benn straight up if hes not willing to sign in Dallas, dont know how Star fans would feel about it, but probably the only feasible deal id include Kessel in.

Didn't even have the decency to include a 1st rounder...

Honestly, I probably wouldn't even trade Morrow alone for that package.

I'd rather trade Morrow for a Honey Mustard Chicken w/ Bacon from Quiznos. At least the sandwich would bring me some joy, regardless of how short-lived.

The trade stuff is all comedy, but it's also not necessarily as much of a slam dunk as people make it think.

If there was no question or dispute about the contract, Benn would have been signed over the summer when so many other restricted free agents were.

Sorry, do not understand what you are saying. You'd rather have a sub than Grabovski on your team? You've taken it to a whole new level.

Absolutely has to be some truth to this. Will you allow to make a wild ass guess though?

I'd bet Dallas thought they'd get some sort of protection with 2nd contracts in the new CBA. There was plenty of talk of that happening before and during this whole ridiculous lockout.

They probably gambled and lost. By that I mean I imagine they stuck to their guns offering only a 2 or 3 year bridge contract.

If GMJN is hesitant to pull the trigger on a 6 year deal now though knowing what we know (Gaglardi has made it clear this is GMJN's decision), then I'm a bit pissed. I wanted to see Benn get a bridge contract too, but I wasn't the one that permitted team officials over and over again to constantly refer to him as a franchise player and compare him to Mike Modano.

You can't say that's who he is, and then turn around and not pay him like that player. We're at the point this is a no brainer. You give him a contract similar to John Tavares ... that's what he's worth in this market. Benn's agent would argue against it, but Eberle and Hall were extensions. They'll likely have monster half seasons to justify the extra dough. Regardless, if you have to you bite the bullet you still give him the $6 million owed to the Oiler wonder twins.

There's no justification for GM Joe to not just pony up and get it done. That's why I say now I'd be shocked if the deal isn't announced almost immediately. I'm hoping we're dealing with two rational sides though ... that mean's Benn's agent not trying to get more than $6 .... and that could be asking for two much since I was expecting the NHL and PA to act reasonably and we know how that turned out.

FWIW ... this is my guess from the Dallas board:

$3.5 million in Year 1; $1.5 million is a signing bonus.
$4.5 million in Year 2
$4.5 million in Year 3
$6.5 million in Year 4
$6.5 million in Year 5
$6.5 million in Year 6

6 year contract worth $32 million; Cap Hit of $5.333 million
Based on the way I've crafted this contract with a signing bonus in Year 1, Benn ends up with a smaller cap hit than Tavares, but he only makes a few $100K less than Tavares over the entire deal.

Because of the lockout, Tavares is taking a big hit in Year 1. Benn can keep his contract number lower but earn more money in Year 1 by getting his salary as a signing bonus.

. . . .

I entirely agree with both points.

It wouldn't surprise me at all if the Stars were hoping the new CBA would protect them from having to take a gamble on Benn by offering him a huge contract.

And I do think the team has boxed itself in. They have a 60 point player they market like a 100 point player, and I bet you in negotiations they aren't exactly offering him deal that compares to the praise and responsibility they heap on him. I get that the team might want to hedge their bets on paying a guy based on what they hope he'll become, but they made this bed.

False.

http://www.leftwinglock.com/line-com...gametype=ALL#A

Benn was on the ice for Dallas 21.56% of the time they played ES, here's the break down.

Benn with Ryder/Eriksson 7.48%... 34.69% of time Benn was on ice
Benn with Ott/Ryder 4.31%... 19.99% of time Benn was on ice
Benn with Eriksson/Ribeiro 3.55%... 16.46%% of time Benn was on ice
Benn with Ott/Burish 2.64%... 12.24% of time Benn was on ice
Benn with Ott/Morrow 1.94%... 8.99% of time Benn was on ice
Benn with Ott/Vincour 1.64%... 7.61% of time Benn was on ice

Totals...

With Ryder 54.68%
With Ott 48.83%
With Eriksson 34.69%
With Ribeiro 16.46%
With Burish 12.24%
With Morrow 8.99%
With Vincour 7.61%

When you factor in PP time.

http://www.leftwinglock.com/line-com...gametype=ALL#A

Where Benn played exclusively with Eriksson and less with Ott,

And then factor in PK time.

http://www.leftwinglock.com/line-com...gametype=ALL#A

Where Benn played exclusively again with Eriksson and not at all with Ott.

Eriksson moves up the list of his regular lines mates.

So in Conclusion,

Benn played most with Ryder and Eriksson than anyone else.

Owned.

in a 48 game season, Dallas can't afford to let him hold out at all. 5-10 game holdout could mean the difference between playoffs or no playoffs.

Truly inconsequential and a waste of your time, because you are not getting him. Understand that.

Benn is like all players, greedy as hell. He wants as much money as possible. If he can get it by sitting out he is gonna do that.
They donīt play because its fun or anything.
