Subban isn't going to take that kind of money long term knowing he will only get better. He has a good agent.

The $ figure and length seem high but fine even if he doesn't deserve to have a free pass compared to Price and MaxPac. But if it is is the price to pay because we don't have any other top-pairing d-men, let it be it.

I think you're probably right, but in that case what's wrong with a 2 year deal?

That's a pretty meh deal. High cap hit and only buys 1 year of UFA? Is that right?

Totally agree. It's 2 years or 8 if your going to give him 5.5 IMO

Would be a nice deal. Cap hit is higher than a 1 or 2 year deal but Doughty signed for 8 years and 56 mil at around the same point.

The fact that it takes him to UFA is no big deal. You still have a year to sign him from July 1st the year before.

Was hoping for 4.5-5M$ on 2-3 years, but what can you do? Hopefully this will motivate PK to become a beast in order to fetch more money in 4 years

That's a bad deal for the Habs. He totally juiced us.

He might be worth that going forward, but as of now I'd have only given him 4.5 max.

whatever deal he ends up signing, he's got more negotiating power than most want to admit.

It's too bad people love to talk about everything EXCEPT the quality of his play, especially when put in the context of a 22-23yr playing top minutes in the toughest market in the NHL.

I personally don't buy all the rumors of his attitude...that's just typical hockey mentality where personality and individualism is misunderstood.

You still have a year(July 1st) before UFA to sign him to an extension(or trade him), it's not like the team has no leverage.

OMG I hope this isn't true, if so I've already lost all faith in Bergevin. UFA money to eat up his RFA years, that's stupid, and he'll just walk in 4 years or ask for 7.5m a year

It would be no UFA years, actually. Which makes that specific AAV hard to believe.

Signing him for 4 years though isn't that big of a problem. By then only Pacioretty-Price-Gorges will be on the books, we'll have tons of room under the cap.

Not sure why some of you are acting like this is done. Again, I heard Francis say it live, he was clear that it was something he had heard from someone who may or not may not be credible. They are not reporting this as a done deal.

i dont like the deal...
Length is fine. I think PK will at the very worse stay at this level which to me is a #1-2 Defenceman easily and at the very best a top 10 in the league so signing him 4+ years is fine and will not hurt us

Now the money.
That i dont like.
Has not proven to be a 5.5M$ player YET.
I would of been happy with 4-4.5 and then give him his big money after.

with a 5.5M$ hit in 4 years whether you want to or not you're going to give him more money (unless he completely digresses) so why agree to such a big hit from now?

If we're giving him 5.5 per, I'd seriously hope it's for longer than 3 and a half seasons.

I was hoping for 4 million per, but I guess that was wishful thinking.

Either way, I'd be happy to have him back on the team.

The Ministers of Revenue in Ottawa and Quebec are very happy about this contract.

Anyway, we are talking about a RUMOUR, right ?

Subban's agent is Don Meehan right? Yeah, Subban was always going to get a good deal for himself and a bad one for us.

It's funny some of you thought Subban was going to take a discount to remain a Hab.

Also I haven't been very impressed with Bergevin's cap management so far, but the Habs always have to overpay.

5.5M$ / 64.3M$ (next years cap, will be the lowest of the duration of the contrat) is 8.55% of the cap.

If a roster has 23 players, then on average, each player should count for 4.35%. This means that Subban makes slightly less than twice the average player's salary. Subban is worth more than twice the average player.

This math is based on the lowest cap. This year, teams can spend 70.2M$, thus Subban represents 7.83% of this years total spending cap.

His contract is in no way a problem.

Mathieu Darche on TSN 690 said that he hasn't signed a contract yet because contracts can not be signed until earliest tomorrow.

This is just a rumor, as far as I know. Not sure about the validity.

That silly Darche, still expecting an offer to come in.

Maybe from an AHL club.

There's a report in MTL saying PK Subban has agreed to a 4yr, $22M deal. His agent tells me that's not true. Said: "No deal has been done."
