Luongo is better than those guys, and you will all be saying so if you get him

(check stats ..his sv% is a dozen pts better than either, and luongo layed on a lousy Fla team half his career...)

And where have the Leafs ended up in the standings the last 4 years? Just because somebody is placed on the first line doesn't mean he's a first line player. There is a reason the Leafs have been one of the worst teams in the league the last 10 years. That isn't even debatable as stats don't lie.

Nope. Tim Connolly & Matt Lombardi would be the centres available, with the Leafs retaining salary if necessary.

1st Line Centre

Definition: Centre, of a team's first line.

Are you challenging the fact that he's a centre? or the fact that he's on the team's first line?

Not Wash. Not Car with that first line. Not NJ (C'mon!!! SC finalists?)
Fla is in weak division and have upper hand by default.
So that leaves 0 playoffs spots for like 5-6 teams that are at par or arguably better than Leafs? Let's be realistic here.

Now, after a full off season, plus the extra time with the lockout he should be back to his usual shape. Combined with him likely getting more used to the limited vision in his eye and he'll likely be much better this year. If he can at least somewhat resemble the player he was two years ago, I would rather have him playing on the third line than Bozak. Its one of the reasons I would rather have Luongo moved partly into the year. See how guys are playing first and if the holes you think are holes are actually what need to be filled.
I agree. But I also don't want to bank on him coming back.

Would like to have as many options open as possible. Hell, if he can be 4th line center while Lappy plays third, I would be happy.

Agreed. Who wants second line center plugs like Malkin, Kesler etc when you have Tyler Bozak.

Max Lapierre would be a first line player in Toronto so I guess that makes him a 1st line center.

seanlinden, you're not helping the Leafs cause.

Bozak is completely expendable. Yes, he is playing on the first line, but that does not make him a first line center. He is a number 3 center who is good on the draw. The only reason he is even up on the first line is because Grabo/Kessel doesn't seem to work out.

This discussion has taken a strong turn towards the pointless

Our of curiosity... who's the centre that Vancouver would want (from any team), if we ignored that team's lack of need for Luongo?

I was expecting Burke to put on a fleecing Gardiner/Lupul/Phaneuf style, but now that he's gone I don't see Toronto trading for him without parlaying their top assets in return. (Reilly, Kessel, Phaneuf, Gardiner, etc)

No, he wouldn't. He'd probably find his way to a similar bottom of the lineup role like he has in Vancouver.

So... Tyler Bozak is a first line centre, but not a first line centre???

The simple fact is, he's a first line centre, because that's where he plays. Is he a good 1st line centre? no, but he plays 1st line centre because he's the best player the Leafs have for that position.

If we wanted to talk about upgrading him, then that's certainly a conversation the Leafs should be having, but that doesn't seem to be a possibility in this thread. We certainly cannot make a downgrade at the position.

Agreed. I wish we could talk more about a FLA trade as that is the likely destination.

Very true. That makes him a $5Million dollar player in Toronto.

Someone like Bolland, as much as it makes my skin crawl to say so
Could even see Gagner

I mean honestly, they are better off just signing a guy like arnott than giving any kind of significant assets for bozak

Well either way we should find out soon enough tomorrow we could find out some more leaked info on what a trade could look like once Sunday rolls around. Or we wait until Sunday or Monday to see what happens. This has to happen sooner than later, camps open officially tomorrow and the first day to be able to do trades is Sunday. I just want this thing over with so we can move on to other rumours.

If this argument is not opposed then it puts Leafs 1rp in big jeopardy to be lottery pick and quite frankly Leafs need it more than Van.

you don't need to worry about that. Gardiner is the one getting traded.

Then honestly... trade Luongo to Chicago for Bolland, and leave us alone already. They arguably need Luongo more than we do.

As for Gagner, what in your view substantially differentiates his contributions from Connolly?

Agreed. You would have to think this will either end very quickly as the new team will want him for opening day or this could go until the deadline or even offseason.
