Cahill. Reliable defensively, great aerial threat, and should be part of a consistent Chelsea back four for years to come. Probably team bias though, and haven't seen much of Jagielka.

Vermaelen, he makes boneheaded mistakes but I think he's still a decent defender with forward drive while I have never been impressed with Van der Wiel's overall game. Granted, I haven't seen him play much.

Olivier Giroud or Lukas Podolski?
Podolski. Such a good combination of skill, speed, and power. Never been impressed by Giroud.
There weren't many strikers more impressive than Giroud last year.
Now of course, was that his real level or was that a season wonder, that's the million dollar question.
But to say you've never been impressed is absolutely amazing. Except if "never" refers to his existence in the EPL. But yeah he existed before that.
21 goals and 9 assists is impressive in Ligue 1, where it's very tough to score.

Schweinsteiger or Xabi Alonso
Don't want to answer the Rodgers/Laudrup question as it's better for somebody else to do so, but I actually think Podolski is a very average combination of those things. His goal output for time on the pitch as well as price is also far less than I would hope for.
I would take Giroud as tactically, you can adjust things to make him and his team more productive. I do not see any way for Podolski to become a 20 goal guy on a semi-regular basis as he doesn't have the instincts to get past defenders nor the pace. If you don't have that, you need to be really shifty like a Suarez (who doesn't have the guile to get past the defense with a back shoulder run and isn't incredibly pacy, yet still scores loads), which Podolski is not.

I don't watch the French League often. I was mainly basing my opinion on his performances so far with Arsenal. I was well aware that he was excellent in the French league, but Podolski was just as good in the Bundesliga last year, which is a better league.
