Cole want return a Cane?

Erik Cole mentions that he may be considering an early retirement.

Quote:
I enjoyed my time at home and the kids are in school here until the end of June and well reevaluate things after that, said Cole, who first raised the prospect of early retirement in October.

He has made his home in Raleigh, and is has mentioned multiple times that he wants to live here after retirement. I am sure that he would be willing to play here if asked.

That's more descriptive of Ray Whitney than Erik Cole.

Every man has his price, and Cole is more the normal Joe who had his "price" blown away by Montreal than a true mercenary.

That's true.

Hopefully he can stay healthy enough to take advantage.

Disagree. WheFfrom previous threads and discussions on Cole he seems to be one of the legit family guys in the NHL and I think if he wants to go back to the canes it is like Smyth wanting to go back to the Oilers

Coming off a 35 goal season there's no way Montreal would absorb some of his cap hit to trade him for that package IMO.

He's a damn fine player to have on your team when he isn't in Edmonton.

Hard working and goes into the dirty areas.

We all know he'll be back in Raleigh at some point in the not too distant future so he can play with his bestest bud, Joe Corvo.

Not necessarily. Exhibit A: Joe Corvo

Acquired from Ottawa
Traded to Washington
Re-signed by Carolina
Traded to Boston
Re-signed by Carolina

Rutherford for some reason loves to get players back that he once traded or let go via UFA (Cole, Corvo, Aaron Ward, Cullen, etc...)

If he plays like *****, he loses his value

If he plays as good as last year, no way the Habs trade him

If he retires, he won't be able to play anywhere else anyway....

so he's stuck in Montreal or will really retire....

Op expects the Habs to trade a player of need for a dman we don't need and a 4th 2nd round pick while absorbing 33% ? That's a bit ridiculous.

If he is dealt back to Carolina this season it won't be cheap.

However I think you're reading too much into this article

If cole is on the market at the trade deadline then it will bring a lot to mtl .. Cole just come off a 35g season there not a lot on the market right now that score 35 g !! I think mtl will talk to him during the season and will see is intention if he doesn't want to play in mtl due to family and go back in USA then mtl will trade him instead of losing him for nothing but if he decide not to retire then mtl won't trade him .. He will start the season with desharnais and pacio and if he start the season with big point then he will bring a lot in trade to mtl .. A team like LA or NY team that really want to win this year will pay big buck for him !! Even if he retire at the end of the season he won't be in the cap space for next year no matter what due to retirement and he sign is contract under 35 year old so he won't be on the cap so it will be a good rental and maybe the guy will decide not to retire if he goes to carolina or NY or somewhere in the state since I think that is only issue it school for is daughter !!

Yes Carolina you've added Staal and Semin this summer but doesn't mean you can get a 35G player for what you've proposed.

I'd be happy with Victor Rask and I really do mind/object to if the Habs get Ryan (gtfo) Murphy for Cole.
