It was already off the threat list over 8 months ago, when we did a simulation project on it.

When the new data were added to what was already known about its orbit, it was found the asteroid will definitely miss the keyhole in 2029, and thus miss us in 2036. By a large margin, actually: more than 20 million kilometers (14 million miles), or 50 times the distance to the Moon. And that’s a minimum distance, so it looks like we’re safe from this rock.

Yeay! That was the only known, observable object that could do serious damage to earth in the short-term. Glad to see it wont.

Of course, there are still the thousands (if not millions) of unknown, not yet observed objects which could do serious damage to Earth.

Yay.

Though, I'll admit, I'm a little sad we won't get to see what Neil Tyson illustrated here:

True, but not very likely (short term... and by that I mean in the next 1000 years).

although it's probably good that we won't go out that way, I sure would have loved for us (as a species) to put the work into finding a solution to the problem.

That was actually done in hilarious fashion.

Lituya Bay tsunami would be nothing compared to an asteroid strike wave

Sure. This is what they want you to think so you don't freak out and decide to not be part of the machine anymore.
