Erik Cole mentions that he may be considering an early retirement.
Quote:
“I enjoyed my time at home and the kids are in school here until the end of June and we’ll reevaluate things after that,” said Cole, who first raised the prospect of early retirement in October.
He has made his home in Raleigh, and is has mentioned multiple times that he wants to live here after retirement. I am sure that he would be willing to play here if asked.

Money talks. Cole is the kinda guy who'll go wherever the money is.
Disagree. WheFfrom previous threads and discussions on Cole he seems to be one of the legit family guys in the NHL and I think if he wants to go back to the canes it is like Smyth wanting to go back to the Oilers

If cole is on the market at the trade deadline then it will bring a lot to mtl .. Cole just come off a 35g season there not a lot on the market right now that score 35 g !! I think mtl will talk to him during the season and will see is intention if he doesn't want to play in mtl due to family and go back in USA then mtl will trade him instead of losing him for nothing but if he decide not to retire then mtl won't trade him .. He will start the season with desharnais and pacio and if he start the season with big point then he will bring a lot in trade to mtl .. A team like LA or NY team that really want to win this year will pay big buck for him !! Even if he retire at the end of the season he won't be in the cap space for next year no matter what due to retirement and he sign is contract under 35 year old so he won't be on the cap so it will be a good rental and maybe the guy will decide not to retire if he goes to carolina or NY or somewhere in the state since I think that is only issue it school for is daughter !!

With Montreal absorbing 33% of the cap hit.
Yes Carolina you've added Staal and Semin this summer but doesn't mean you can get a 35G player for what you've proposed.
