I would honestly hope if Pitkanen and/or McBain are really on the trading block, Garth Snow would be doing whatever is necessary to try and get them to the Island.

He enters the zone at will and makes really good decisions on the PP. I would seriously consider adding him as a 6'th or 7'th D with serious PP time.
Murphy is nowhere close to NHL ready. He needs not only to finish his junior career out but he's gonna need at least a year in the AHL playing against men. Probably two years. While he's no bust, he's certainly not NHL ready.

Call me wayyyyy out of the loop, but aren't Carolina swimming in centers? Ruutu was a center, both Staals are centers, Skinner can play center (I thought), Jokenin can play center...no?
Dont know of its been mentioned yet, but Zack Smith from Ott for McBain? If you need a 3C, Smith is perfect in that role. We just have enough centers as it is and not enough defenseman.

Skinner is a C converted to a winger and Jokinen is a natural LW who played C (tho IIRC he said he didn't enjoy it as much as winger)
Cole talking retirement after this season is a good thing for the Habs. It would mean that we got him on a 2 year 4.5M/year contract. His worst years will be the remaining 2 after this year. Habs should hold onto him then let him retire next season.

Under the new CBA, the Canes could make that trade with the Habs and have them keep some of the money on it. Cole in Carolina for 3 mil a year would probably be doable.
