Or Janssen can be sent down with Tedenby, Butler, and Sykora all there, but we'd probably need to deal a defenseman.

That's where having this 8 defensemen thing is gonna come back to bite us I think. It keeps us shorthanded in roster spots for forwards.

Definitely not to start the season, but as a call up yes I think so.

Ok, so maybe that's the plan then. Matteau as the stop gap until we can get someone via trade or Henrique recovers.

When we have injuries I imagine he will be one of the first call ups.

From TG:

Quote:
Elias will turn 37 on April 13, but feels he still has a few years left in him before he retires.

“Are you kidding me?” he replied when asked about his plans after this season. “After last year the way I played, I’m hoping to play for at least another two, three, four years. Whatever I can play. I enjoy it. I love it. I’m in good shape. I’m in better shape than I probably was a few years back. I’m still useful.”

And, with the cap to drop from $70.2 million this season to $64.3 million for 2013-14, Elias isn’t sure this isn’t his last year as a Devil.

“It could be,” he said “You never know what the situation is going to bring with the new CBA, with ownership and my position. Who knows if they still want me here? So, you’ve got to be ready for anything.”

I think Patty will come back only if the Devils offer is very close to the best offer on the table. I can't imagine another team offering more than 5 million.

TGfireandice: Albany Devils say J. Josefson & S. Gionta missed Fri's game @ Manchester w/lower body injuries & are day to day. Neither available tonight.

Unless he puts up 40 points or so this season, I really can't envision he's going to get THAT much as a free agent. The cap is dropping, and at his age. is the 35+ rule still in there? If so that may discourage teams. If he's going to get $5 mil or more, I imagine its a 1 year deal from a team looking more towards staying above the cap floor more than anything. And in that case, if the Devils were to offer him a multi-year deal instead, I don't see why he wouldn't stay (even though it would definitely be less money per year)

If he goes to the UFA market at all this year like that mess we had last year I'll be beyond pretty pissed with Lou, and the Hucksterbeek. At least sign him before UFA starts. None of this ''Wait in line'' crap like the mess they made last July 1st.

The only way that works is Tallinder or Volchenkov+

Do you think we can get a deal done with something like Tallinder and Tedenby?

If we add Hemsky, our team looks awesome, he's got 60-70 point potential in an 82 game season.

Could you imagine a Kovalchuk-Zajac-Hemsky line...? Only problem is that adding Hemsky adds significant cap space unless Volchenkov is going the other way, I don't know how much cap I'd be willing to add with so many UFA and RFA forwards this offseason.

I still think we could fit Hemsky in next year even with the amount of forwards we have to resign. And we could always use a compliance buyout if necessary on Volchenkov if we don't move him and need space.

I think EDM would be looking at Tallinder/Volch + something. Not sure what the plus would be and not sure if they'd be interested in Tedenby. Don't think they would be interested in a small struggling winger project.

Health is the issue, if he stays healthy, we've replaced Zach's point production

Any news on the Devils training camp invite list?

I saw that Matteau is invited and Lamoriello said 5 or 6 forward lines 2 goalies and 8 D, the last two being obvious. If he did say 5 or 6 forward lines then:

Kovalchuk-Zajac-Zubrus
Tedenby-Elias-Butler
Carter-Josefson-Clarkson
Bernier-Gionta-Barch
Matteau-????-Janssen
??????????????

Who else could he invite? I'm thinking we might see a guy like Pesonen or whoever the Devils are really high on in Albany up here.

It has been like 4 years since Hemsky had anywhere near 60+ points. I would think if we send Tallinder we would be getting something else with Hemsky.

Also I think Hemsky would be playing wing to an Elias line. Have Zubrus play with Kovy and Zajac.

Not at all. He had 36 in 69 games, which was a low, but the year before that 42 in 47, somewhere near 75 points in 82 games and the year before that, 22 points in 22 games.

He's definitely a 60-75 point player during a full season. If Oilers are trading Hemsky, they will be trading him because his value will be close to a 60-70 point Hemsky and not an injury plagued Hemsky. In order for the Devils to get him, they'd have to pay that value or relatively close.

Health issues are definitely a concern with Hemsky, otherwise Detroit or Pittsburgh would have acquired him last deadline.
