Dick Irvin Jr. (knows hockey better than anyone I've ever heard)
Rick Jeanneret (so colourful, only heard hilites but makes the game fun)
Don Cherry (outlandish opinions, but also fun to listen to)

I don't know where each one would go, but those are three of the guys I'd want in a booth.

Its all great.
yeah I love the way he does it

I don't care about the Color Commentator... all I have to say for play by play is Bob Miller...

He and Jim Fox go well together.

Bob is the MAN!

Play-by-Play: Mike Emrick. One of the best in the business, in my opinion. Just has a smooth, creative delivery that is nice to hear. Also, he is one of the more unbiased game-callers I've heard.

Color: Paul Steigerwald. Otherwise known as the voice of the Penguins. Has a lot of hockey knowledge and would not seem out of place in a color role.

I know exactly what you're saying. I remember back a couple years ago, in the dal/edm first round series, Comrie scored an ot goal in game 4, I think. Cuthbert's call was one of the best in recent memory. And this coming from a flames fan who was not exactly overjoyed at the moment.

"Ryan Smyth, behind the net, out front, Comrie...SCOOOOORRRESSS..the edmonton kid, scores in overtime! And the Oilers win game four!"

Or something like that. I think that was the game when they came back from the two goal deficit late (belfour's puckhandling gaffes), so the crowd was going extra crazy.

Not a Steigy fan myself, but by the time I started listening he was doing PbP on the radio side, my only memories of him as a color guy was of the 90-91 cup finals that I have on tape.

Personally I don't think a color guy can get much better than Eddie Olcyzk was.

I sincerely hope that when his time behind the bench is finished he returns to the booth.

Bob Miller is easily the best play-by-play. Melrose makes me laugh, and Clement gives you that raw-dramatic feeling but at the same time knows what he's talking about. Those would be my three

I definitely agree with you on Mickey. He's a great old time hockey guy and I love a lot of the phrases he has like "whacked him with a BC 2 hander!"
